When Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband of 25 years Prince Frederic von Anhalt told her she was going to lose her leg, she was surprisingly calm and had only one question on her mind, he told RadarOnline.com.
"Am I going to die?" the 93-year-old showbiz icon asked him.
It was then that Anhalt and the doctors explained to her what could happen unless they acted soon. "I told her that the doctors said that the infection was moving and if it had gone into her hip -- that would be it -- she would die," Anhalt said.
The hour-long operation was successfully performed on Friday after doctors discovered the infection had spread into her bone.
After the operation, when Gabor got her first look at her amputated leg, Anhalt told her not worry.
"She saw it and is aware that her leg is now gone. I told her she didn't need it anyway, that I will just carry her everywhere. She chuckled at that," he said.
Anhalt explained that given Gabor's medical history and age, it might be a while until she can leave the hospital. "She is on morphine and will probably be in the hospital for about two weeks or so, depending on her recovery due to her age," he said.
With Gabor's 94th birthday coming up next month, Anhalt says that he'll just have to bring the party to the hospital, if necessary.
