The Collaborations Continue with Valentino for the Gap

Every once in a fashion blue moon, a retailer/designer collaboration so great comes along, that it creates a demand impossible for manufacturers to meet. Right now, American shoppers are watching the frenzy unfold at H&M stores, with Lanvin for H&M requiring retailers to beef up security and invest in stiletto-proof barricades. When an ultimate name in luxury partners with an affordably priced retailer, women who normally only drool over the clothes in magazines can actually afford to purchase them. It’s a fashion miracle! And this weekend, it’s happening again in the UK, with Valentino for the GAP launching exclusively in London’s flagship location.

Valentino, the Italian fashion house famous for dressing everyone from Cameron Diaz to Scarlett Johansson in show-stoppingly sexy, slit-up-to-there gowns, is finally debuting its much buzzed about collection of everything from dresses to jackets for the GAP. When news of the collaboration first broke, fashion insiders were left scratching their heads. How would a design house known for glitz and glamour mesh with the everywoman’s go-to spot for jeans and cozy sweaters? It was an unlikely pairing – but like chocolate and peanut butter, it somehow works beautifully.

The collection is the perfect blending of brands, with a signature oversized Valentino bow strategically positioned on a classic GAP-style cargo pant or jean. The leather bolero jackets and parkas in the collection are warm enough to stand up against raw winters in the UK, but stylish enough to bare the Valentino label. The pieces may just be fashionable enough to convert die-hard Valentino glamour girls like Victoria Beckham or Elizabeth Hurley to the dark side known as casual wear!

The Valentino for GAP collection officially launches in London on Saturday, November 27. Here’s hoping some of the luscious designs eventually make their way to GAP stores across the pond. And if not, there’s always eBay!
