Apple recently rolled out a new iPad app that's sure to please any fan of cinema's coolest cat by offering background information on his latest smash, 'True Grit,' including tons of facts about the film's setting and design, stunts, costumes and celebrated author Charles Portis.
"I worked with Mary on 'The Big Lebowski' and sure admired the expertise she brought to this," Bridges recounts about costume creator Mary Zophres, a longtime Coen brothers collaborator. "She gave me wonderful books to look at with styles that a guy like Rooster might have worn. Then together we picked just the right hat, just the right eye patch, just the right boots -- the boots are very important -- and it really brings you back to that time."
Those boots, by the way, were Civil War cavalry boots that didn't quite fit, says Zophres. "There's nothing about him [Rooster Cogburn, Bridges' character] that's refined," she says. "He's a mess and Jeff really owned that." Beyond costumes, fans won't be disappointed to hear Bridges did all his own stunts, from horseback riding to double-fisted shooting, in 'Grit.'
An Apple rep confirmed to PopEater that the app is its latest movie-related offering, after stepping into the movie promo world with apps for the 'Tron' and 'Toy Story' franchises. The 'True Grit' app, on which Apple worked with Paramount Digital Entertainment, is currently one of the three most popular entertainment applications for the iPad.
In Bridges news for the less tech-minded, PBS has rolled out a new 'American Masters' documentary that is sure to please both die hard fans of 'Star Man' and 'The Big Lebowski' and newbies who fell for Bridges' Oscar-winning turn in 'Crazy Heart.' The doc gives viewers an in-depth look at just about anything you ever wanted to know about the jaw-swinging, mellowed-out mountain man and his legendary career.
