Corey Haim Snubbed at Screen Actors Guild Awards

The montage of actors, writers and directors who've passed on to the big awards show in the sky is a tradition at nearly every ceremony, from the Oscars to the Emmys. Also an annual tradition is the oh-no-they-didn't act of leaving someone out.

This year, the culprit is the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and the snubbed star is none other than Corey Haim, who, despite having several major films under his belt, was omitted from a montage clip that included fellow ex-child stars Gary Coleman and David Nelson, among others.

"We have become used to not being honored by our peers in the industry," Haim's 'Lost Boys' co-star and friend Corey Feldman tells PopEater upon learning of the snub. "I have faith that the Academy will make a wiser choice."

Haim, the former teen idol who rose to fame in 1980s classics 'The Lost Boys' and 'Lucas,' died March 10 at his mother's home in Burbank, Calif. An autopsy report labeled it a "natural death" and illegal drugs were not found in his system. He was 38.

All award ceremonies have their own policy on choosing who gets memorialized, and often it is tied to the date of their death. But the SAGs are known to be a little more loose in this regard and included Zelda Rubinstein, who died Jan. 27 of last year, and also Pete Postlethwaite, who died Jan. 3 of this year.

The Screen Actors Guild moved to explain the apparent slight on Monday, telling PopEater Haim was not included in the 'In Memoriam' package that aired because of time concerns.

"This year we prepared a longer version in hopes of being able to salute more actors and a shorter version if it was needed due to time," SAG Awards producer Kathy Connell explains. "Mr. Haim was in the longer version. As the show was running long, we were forced to chose the shorter package."

She added, "The Committee only wishes they had the time to salute everyone."

The big snub of 2010 was delivered to Farrah Fawcett at the Oscars, but as the Academy argued, the 'Charlie's Angels' star was primarily a TV star. Close friends and even her longtime parter Ryan O'Neal pointed out that she had many films, including 'The Apostle' and 'Extremities,' which gained her a Golden Globe nomination.
