Perez Hilton on Rihanna's 'S&M' Video: 'People Want It to Be Controversial'

Perez Hilton doesn't get all the fuss. The influential blogger is trying to make sense of the dizzying controversy surrounding Rihanna's tongue-wagging video for her new single 'S&M.' The kinky clip features the raven-haired hell-raiser sporting a skin-tight pink latex outfit and other bondage clothing while being hounded by reporters wearing ball gags. The fallout? 'S&M' has already been flagged by YouTube, reportedly banned in 11 countries and edited down by MTV.

Hilton appears in the clip, playfully being walked like a dog (leash and all) by Ri-Ri and pretending to pee on a fire hydrant. "That was Rihanna's idea," a laughing Perez tells PopEater. "I really don't think it's that controversial. I think that people just want it to be controversial."

Hilton, however, does admit that when he was first asked to appear in the 'S&M' video, he was a bit apprehensive out of respect for Rihanna. "I wanted to make sure that Rihanna was comfortable with the idea and it wasn't something the director was pushing," he says. "So I spoke to the director, Melina [Matsoukas], and she told me it was actually Rihanna's idea herself to have me be in the video. I was blown away and so flattered. I instantly said yes."
