Australian rocker Harvey James has died after a battle with lung cancer. He was 58.
The Sherbet guitarist passed away in Melbourne on Saturday evening and his daughter Alexandra broke the news to fans on a Facebook page set up in tribute to the star, called "Send Your Love To Harvey James."
In a post, she writes, "We would like to thank everybody for all the wonderful support over the past 6 months ... The love has been overwhelming. Rest in peace my gorgeous, funny, amazing father. We will miss you everyday forever."
James played in several bands throughout his career, including Mississippi and Ariel, before joining Sherbet in 1975.
The group split up in 1979, but reunited on several occasions. James also participated in a reunion of the second line-up of Ariel in 1998.
He was diagnosed with lung cancer in July and a benefit gig, called Gimme That Guitar, took place in Melbourne in November.
