Bruno Mars Takes Plea Deal in Vegas Cocaine Case, Avoids Felony Charge
Bruno Mars got a lucky break in court Friday. AP reports that the pop singer is accepting a plea deal that allows him to pay a fine, serve probation and have a felony cocaine possession charge against him dismissed.
The 25-year old crossed the line in Sept. 2010 when he was arrested in Las Vegas with possession of a controlled substance. Mars performed at the Wasted Space nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino before he was suspected by a bathroom attendant of doing drugs in the men's room. A security guard was alerted and Mars, confronted on the spot, allegedly reached into his jeans and handed over a bag containing more than two grams of cocaine.
The 'Grenade' and 'Just The Way You Are' singer told an officer he had acted foolishly and never tried drugs before in his life. If convicted, Mars could have been sentenced to four years behind bars.
Mars accepted a deal where he will pay a $2,000 fine, perform 200 hours of community service and complete drug counseling. If he has no other run-ins with the law for a year, no conviction will remain on his record.
Fortunately for Mars, this plea agreement allows him to step past the cocaine charge just in time for the 53rd Grammy Awards. He is nominated for seven awards, including best male pop vocal for his hit "Just the Way You Are."

"I really enjoy things that are tart, that's especially refreshing to me," Zoe told PEOPLE. "Strawberries, grapefruit, things that are really sour."
The 39-year-old and her husband Roger Berman are looking forward to the experience of being parents. "From what I can tell just from being an aunt, (motherhood) is the greatest thing that ever happened," she said.
Zoe's dapper assistant Brad Goresky split from his boss in Sept. 2010. While the two tried to claim it was drama free, our sources said Doresky was sick of doing all the work while (Zoe) got all the credit." Meanwhile, Zoe felt "used by Brad. Chris Brown Asks Judge to Remove Restraining Order in Rihanna Beating Case
Chris Brown appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom Friday afternoon for a progress report in the Rihanna beating case. His attorney Mark Geragos requested that the judge remove the restraining order against his client, Radaronline.com reports.
The 21-year-old singer has received glowing probation reports stemming from his conviction for felony assault. Brown was sentenced to five years probation and six months of community labor after being found guilty of assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna.
"Out of thousands of probationers, no one has done a better or more consistent job than you have, and I really want to commend you for taking responsibility and actually working diligently to complete all the things the court has required of you," Judge Schnegg told Brown.
Geragos told Judge Schnegg that Brown has completed his 52 week domestic violence counseling and is requesting the existing restraining order against Brown is removed.
"It makes it difficult at award shows and such," the lawyer explained.
While Judge Schnegg did not immediately grant the request, she did suggest a modification to the current restraining order with the approval of Rihanna's attorney.
In Dec. 2010, Brown graduated from his domestic violence class, and proudly tweeted out a photo of his certificate with the words "I'm done with class."
"I have enough self respect and decency to be proud of accomplishing this (domestic violence) class," he tweeted. "Boys run from their mistakes. Men learn from them!

It's been reported that Jaime Pressly has filed for divorce from her husband of 16 months, Simran Singh.
Earlier this week there were reports that the couple had split. Now RadarOnline.com says the 33-year-old actress cited irreconcilable differences as the cause for the collapse of her marriage which she claims ended on December 27.
On Jan. 5, Pressly was arrested on the suspicion of drunk driving. She was driving in Santa Monica when police pulled her over at around 11 PM for an alleged traffic violation. Following a field sobriety test, she was arrested and booked.
Pressly is asking that the court not award Singh spousal support. Tax records show the IRS has filed for over $500,000 in tax liens against her in the last year, and the state of California is looking to collect $95,080.
The former 'My Name is Earl' star and two-time Emmy nominee has a three-year-old son, Dezi James Calvo, from her previous relationship with DJ Eric Cubiche. She and Singh have no children together.

"You know what, if I get in a bad car crash today, Variety will report that Professor Lasky from 'Saved by the Bell' has met his early demise," Fabian tells PopEater with a chuckle. "That 'Saved by the Bell' has been running nonstop for 15 years."
And if you see him on the street and address him as Lasky, he doesn't mind. "Anyone who recognizes the fact that I've been working and stuff like that. Rarely do I get, 'Hey Lasky, you're an a**hole.' It's usually people who are fondly remembering their own youth. So I have no problems with that whatsoever."
Fabian, who stars in CMT's new series 'Working Class,' chatted with us about his new gig, what it was like working with Ed Asner and one "smart little show" called 'Veronica Mars.'
Tell me about 'Working Class.'
[It's] a classic sitcom in the vein of 'Cheers' and 'Roseanne' and 'Everybody Loves Raymond.' It's funny for the whole family. It stars Melissa Peterman, the funniest girl in television, and TV legend Ed Asner and myself. It's a half-hour sitcom, telling the tale of Carli, who is played by Peterman, who is trying to make her life better for her and her kids. I play her boss, and I'm from the rich side of the tracks. Her and I find each other rather interesting -- sort of a Sam and Diane kind of relationship so far. We are not from the same ilk, but we like each other very much, so we'll see where the relationship goes.
So there may be a little bit of romance?
There might be some kissing, that's all I'm saying.
What drew you to the role?
I worked with Melissa before on an episode of 'Reba,' Reba McEntire's show, about four or five years ago. I played the role of Reverand Yummy Pants. So she had this show lined up and she called me up and thought I would be perfect for the role of her boss, which is a compliment anytime someone calls you up and says, "Hey, we need the role of a handsome rich guy." I was like, "All right, I'll play that if I can." And I got to get involved with CMT, and they are great people over there, and once Ed Asner was signed on, we had a really solid cast. I love sitcoms; sitcoms are funny. I love Melissa because she's funny. I got to work and work is a real hoot and holler, a really good time. I think that all comes off on-screen.
Speaking of Ed Asner, what was it like working with him?
A little intimidating at first; he's Ed Asner for Christ's sake. In the end, yes, he is intimidating because he's Ed Anser, but he's intimidating because he's so good. He knows what he's doing. He's a real pro. There's a reason that he's been lauded as much as he has. However, I will say this, and he'll punch me if he reads this, he's an absolute teddy bear. He's a total softie on the inside. He's very curmudgeony and he's got that whole thing down -- in the end, it comes from a big heart inside, that's what I think.
What has been your favorite experience working on this show?
We shot it in three days, which is the first time that episodes have been shot in three days. It makes the working conditions very frantic. If you don't have people that are good and good to get along with, it could be a hideous work situation. Instead, it was really fun. Melissa really set the tone of the show and made everybody laugh all the time. She had such a positive energy. She carried the weight of the show on her. It was kind of amazing. We had mud wrestling and karaoke nights during shooting. She kept it fun.
You had mud wrestling on the show -- or off the set?
There was a mud-wrestling episode. Actually, my wife played the woman who mud-wrestles Melissa. And afterward, Melissa mud-wrestled anybody for $20, which she donated to charity. She raised over $400 that night.
You've been in everything. Is there a role you're most recognized for?

I tend to think that that's a show that hits kids in high school, when they are sitting with a bag of potato chips before and after school sort of doing nothing. So I get recognized for Professor Lasky a lot. Also with 'The Last Exorcism,' you know the movie that came out last year, I'm getting a lot more heat for that as well. And then weirdly enough, I did some stuff for Disney, and there's a whole sect of 8-to-12-year-old girls who know me as Thantos. I kind of cover the gamut.
You really have. You've got adults, teens, tweens and horror fanatics.
It's funny because in aiports and fast food joints, it's almost always 'Saved by the Bell' because that's that pocket of kids, working those jobs, who all of the sudden look at me and they go "Hey." I'm like, "Right. I kissed Kelly Kapowski. You're gosh darn right."
Is it annoying at all? Do people call you Professor Lasky?
They do, absolutely, because that's how they know me. They're like, "Hey Lasky," and I'm like, "All right, whatever." No, it's a real compliment, are you kidding me? Anyone who recognizes the fact that I've been working and stuff like that. Rarely do I get, "Hey Lasky, you're an a**hole." It's usually people who are fondly remembering their own youth. So I have no problems with that whatsoever.
I have to say, I really liked you in 'Veronica Mars,' too.
You know? That's that other thing. I know it wasn't a giant hit, but it certainly has a fanbase. And that was really fun to work on as well. Kristen Bell was totally cool. What I loved about her, as a pretty, smart, intelligent girl, she was willing to play kind of a dick. You know? That was the great thing about her. She was pretty and smart, and she was kind of a dick to people on the show, character-wise. That was really nice. That was true to form. That was a smart little show.
It was great. I'm sorry it's gone.
I am too. There was talk of making a movie of it at some point, but I think the further those things move away, the harder it is.

After an inspirational chat with Ryan Seacrest, director James Cameron has joined Twitter.
Tweeting straight from the heart, Cameron wrote in his inaugural post on Friday, "ryan seacrest told me I had to get on Twitter. So here I am. First tweet. I feel younger already."
The reportedly difficult, sometimes egomaniacal director of 'Avatar,' 'Titanic' and the first two 'Terminator' films didn't hesistate to poke fun of himself, either, writing, "I never tweeted before because I'm a long winded blowhard, and they don't allow enough characters."
Now he's retweeting, interacting with fans, and using hashtags like a boss.

Divinyls' 'I Touch Myself' Singer Chrissy Amphlett Beats Breast Cancer
Chrissy Amphlett, the former singer for Australian rock group Divinyls, made an announcement Jan. 23 on her official Facebook page that she is officially cancer-free.
Divinyls was best known for their 1991 hit 'I Touch Myself.' The band called it quits in 1996, and shortly thereafter Amphlett found herself deep in debt, Spinner reports. The singer then took to the stage in Australia playing actress Judy Garland. Amphlett's portrayal of the troubled star was widely acclaimed by critics and led to a successful acting career for the Aussie.
Amphlett's band reunited very briefly in 2007. It was also in 2007 that the singer was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Then, more bad news followed when just last year doctors discovered Amphlett's breast cancer.
"Today I have no answers," the 51-year-old wrote to her fans a few days after her initial announcement of being cancer-free. "I only know that I was given a chance to reflect on my own mortality; given a chance to choose life over the fear of death."
Fans chimed in, congratulating the singer on her good news, and coming forth with their own stories of sickness and loss, hope and survival.
"Thank you to those who have given their support and love," Amphlett responded. "Now let's celebrate Life!!!!!!"
Amphlett now lives in New York, and as of 2009 was a member of a new band. She's yet to comment on any future musical plans.

Former '90210' Actor Ian Ziering Pampers Himself, Prepares for Fatherhood
Former 'Beverly Hills, 90210' cast member Ian Ziering knows even men need a day at the spa. The soon-to-be dad was spotted at celebrity stylist Ramy Gafni's Manhattan salon on Wednesday to pamper himself ... and a few clients. Although he has great genes, Ziering, 46, lives by the Nu Skin brand Galvanic facial kit to keep him looking fresh and young. He even surprised one of Ramy's lucky clients and gave him a mini-facial! An Oscar Win for Natalie Portman Could Make Her One of the Highest Paid Actresses in Hollywood
Oscar watchers are all but guaranteeing that Natalie Portman will take home a little gold man for her work in 'Black Swan.' That $400 statuette may be the ultimate vanity prize in Hollywood, but it also carries some substantial clout in generating future value for an actor or an actress.
See, a little gold man tomorrow is actually worth more than a little gold man today.
Hollywood agents and managers estimate their clients get a 20 percent bump in their asking price for the next film they negotiate immediately following an Academy Award win for best actor or best actress.
An Oscar raises a performer's monetary quote, but also makes a difference in the types of material they are considered for. Directors and producers start to look at newer-to-the-scene actors, like last year's nominee Jeremy Renner, in a new light. It solidifies their brand as the gold standard of acting and, ideally, box office returns.
The Hollywood Reporter's Stephen Galloway predicts that a win for Portman will put her in the same circle as Reese Witherspoon and allow her to command one of the top salaries in Hollywood.
"For Portman, a best actress victory could propel her into the Reese Witherspoon stratosphere of $10 million-plus a picture, a lot more than the high-six figures she made on the $13 million 'Swan' -- just as Halle Berry's asking price shot up to more than $10 million after her win for 'Monster's Ball,'" Galloway writes in this week's issue of THR. Granted, Portman typically commands a salary in the millions and took a pay cut for 'Black Swan' because it was a passion project.
Her increased price tag will be worth it for whatever project opts to pay it. The Academy Award provides an external validation in the consumer's mind, akin to an FDA stamp of approval. The voters, who are aspirational to start with, offer a similar screening function of sorting through the year's winners and losers albeit without the drastic downside -- if someone sees a crappy movie they won't die.
If Portman wins, from here on out, "Academy Award Winner" will be attached to her name and every project she is associated with, and the entertainment consumer will feel validated buying Portman products.
This nomination alone, and the fact that she has been anointed the chosen front-runner, will no doubt boost Portman's asking price. The issue is how long she plans to take off following the birth of her first child this summer. Critics Abandon 'The Social Network,' Join 'King's Speech' Bandwagon
Oscar season is a marathon stricken by fickle opinions and wavering tastes, but this year has been relatively drama-free thanks to consensus-favorite 'The Social Network' dominating the award shows. This week, however, some critics jumped ship. After 'Network's' top competitor, 'The King's Speech,' stole a win at the Producers Guild Awards and racked up the most Oscar nominations with 12, 'Speech' executive producer Harvey Weinstein and other pundits smelled blood in the water, but movie awards expert Scott Feinberg tells PopEater he's not buying it.
"I think they switched back because it's just a gut feeling that 'The King's Speech' is too perfect a movie for the Academy; they still feel the Academy is predisposed to go for old-fashioned movies that check off all the boxes that they've always responded to," Feinberg says.
Although 'The Social Network' swept the Golden Globes and most critics awards -- except for the British Independent Film Awards -- the one 'King's Speech' win at the PGAs has award pundits flipping completely, as surveyed on Movie City News. Feinberg, on the other hand, says 'The Social Network' is mathematically still very much in favor.
Most critics who flipped on 'The Social Network' have been staunch supporters of 'The King's Speech' for months, but were forced to change their minds after the Facebook movie dominated almost all of the award shows. "Critics that flipped were with 'Social Network' before the Broadcast Film Critics Awards and the Globes, so I don't think it's a shock they went back to that," Feinberg explains.
Feinberg calculates the PGA and the Oscars have only corresponded for Best Picture 67 percent of the time in the last 21 years, while the Directors Guild Awards provides a much better precursor with a 79 percent corrolation in the past 62 years. The Directors Guild Awards take place on Jan. 29.
"I think it's almost certain David Fincher is going to win the DGA, so I think people just got excited since the PGA is the only other award show that uses a preferential ballot and 'The Social Network' won in that way. But what they're forgetting is the the Academy is made up of 8 percent producers -- meanwhile, there's a much higher percentage of directors and actors," Feinberg says.
Feinberg goes on to speculate that one of the reasons 'The King's Speech' won the PGA was because guild members were already honoring him for a life-time achievement award. "I think they had already decided when Scott Rudin was getting a special career achievement award that night, so I think it was understood, saying 'hey, okay, his movie is already going to get acknowledged that night, let's spread the love," Feinberg said.
With all that said, Feinberg says the win still throws a wrench into the Oscar race weeks before the big dance. "I think the 'Social Network' team is concerned," Feinberg says. "I think that it's far from over and I think Harvey Weinstein knows that as well since there's all kinds of movement in terms of how they're strategizing, like right now, they're re-cutting 'The Kings Speech.'"
However, all speculation can be put to rest if 'The Social Network' wins Best Ensemble Cast at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. "[Actors] are the largest percentage of the Academy, 22 percent, and if it goes for 'The Social Network,' then I think it's game-set-match," Feinberg concludes.
"I think they switched back because it's just a gut feeling that 'The King's Speech' is too perfect a movie for the Academy; they still feel the Academy is predisposed to go for old-fashioned movies that check off all the boxes that they've always responded to," Feinberg says.
Although 'The Social Network' swept the Golden Globes and most critics awards -- except for the British Independent Film Awards -- the one 'King's Speech' win at the PGAs has award pundits flipping completely, as surveyed on Movie City News. Feinberg, on the other hand, says 'The Social Network' is mathematically still very much in favor.
Most critics who flipped on 'The Social Network' have been staunch supporters of 'The King's Speech' for months, but were forced to change their minds after the Facebook movie dominated almost all of the award shows. "Critics that flipped were with 'Social Network' before the Broadcast Film Critics Awards and the Globes, so I don't think it's a shock they went back to that," Feinberg explains.
Feinberg calculates the PGA and the Oscars have only corresponded for Best Picture 67 percent of the time in the last 21 years, while the Directors Guild Awards provides a much better precursor with a 79 percent corrolation in the past 62 years. The Directors Guild Awards take place on Jan. 29.

Debbie Gibson: Britney's Head-Shave Meltdown a 'Great Thing' for Her Career
bbie Gibson and Tiffany look like a pair of singing angels compared to their teen-pop offspring Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus, but they tell me that doesn't mean they didn't have their share of meltdowns back in the 1980s, or that having such an epic, public scandal is even a bad thing for a career anymore.
"I had my meltdowns then and still have them now, but I just do them in private," Debbie says. Tiffany wholeheartedly agrees, saying if she would have done something like shave her head or smoke out of a bong during the height of her career, there wouldn't have been paparazzi or camera phones waiting to capture her every stumble.
"In LA, the difference now is that everything is right out in the open," Tiffany explains. "The barometer is different now. Before, if we would have started having all of our meltdowns in public, it probably would have ruined our careers. It wasn't entertainment at that point."
Their squeaky clean images set them apart from their successors, but they're also fully aware that with scandal comes that compelling opportunity to redeem themselves. "We've never really gone off the deep end. People find that really un-interesting," Tiffany says.
Ultimately, Debbie argues that times have changed and that all the ups and down-down-downs that Britney has gone through in recent years have had a silver lining attached to them.
"It was a great thing for her next hit record," Debbie said of the Brit head-shaving disaster of 2007. "People were like, 'She's back. She's thriving again!' And then they want her to melt down again. And they want to lift her up again. I heard a great phrase once that goes, 'America loves a good comeback.'"
Debbie and Tiffany are out promoting their amazingly titled movie 'Mega Python vs. Gatoroid,' which premieres Saturday night on Syfy.

Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osbourne Film Super Bowl Ad
Justin Bieber can check another icon off his list after working with Black Sabbath singer and music legend Ozzy Osbourne for a Super Bowl commercial.
The Best Buy ad will feature Ozzy and Biebs wearing 'Tron'-esque suits.
PEOPLE writes that the commercial was filmed Jan. 17. That same day, Bieber posted some cryptic, excited tweets to his 6.9 million followers, throwing down the hashtag #todaywasepic.
According to USA Today, the 30-second ad will run in the third quarter of the Super Bowl.
"Justin Bieber is the biggest star out there, but that's not why he's in the spot," Best Buy marketing chief Drew Panayiotou told the newspaper. "He symbolically represents something important to the brand message."
Bieber will appear in more Best Buy spots throughout 2011. USA Today contends Bieber is using the spot as "a serious bid to move beyond the world of tween heartbreaker."
'Branded: The Buying and Selling of Teenagers' author Alissa Quart tells the paper Biebs and Oz "are both fish out of water in what we imagine a Super Bowl ad should be: babes and beer."

The actress and comedian made TV history on Dec. 24, 1980, becaming the first person with a disability to appear in a recurring role on primetime television, when she starred as cousin Geri on 'The Facts of Life.'
She has also appeared in the Emmy Award-winning television movie 'Two of a Kind,' '21 Jump Street,' 'The Young and the Restless' and, most recently, HBO's 'Deadwood' from 2003 to 2006.
