Bruno Mars got a lucky break in court Friday. AP reports that the pop singer is accepting a plea deal that allows him to pay a fine, serve probation and have a felony cocaine possession charge against him dismissed.
The 25-year old crossed the line in Sept. 2010 when he was arrested in Las Vegas with possession of a controlled substance. Mars performed at the Wasted Space nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino before he was suspected by a bathroom attendant of doing drugs in the men's room. A security guard was alerted and Mars, confronted on the spot, allegedly reached into his jeans and handed over a bag containing more than two grams of cocaine.
The 'Grenade' and 'Just The Way You Are' singer told an officer he had acted foolishly and never tried drugs before in his life. If convicted, Mars could have been sentenced to four years behind bars.
Mars accepted a deal where he will pay a $2,000 fine, perform 200 hours of community service and complete drug counseling. If he has no other run-ins with the law for a year, no conviction will remain on his record.
Fortunately for Mars, this plea agreement allows him to step past the cocaine charge just in time for the 53rd Grammy Awards. He is nominated for seven awards, including best male pop vocal for his hit "Just the Way You Are."

Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil to Serve 15 Days in Jail After DUI Guilty Plea
Vince Neil’s next gig will be two weeks behind bars, as the rocker pleaded guilty Wednesday to driving drunk on the Las Vegas Strip last summer.
A temporary judge accepted Neil’s agreed-upon plea deal after the Mötley Crüe frontman arrived to court 90 minutes early and got a jump on reporters, according to The Associated Press.
A court spokeswoman told the wire service the “Girls, Girls, Girls” singer was allowed to move up his case to allow him time to make a family court appearance elsewhere in Sin City.
Per the terms of Neil’s plea agreement that were reported last week, the rocker begins serving 15 days in the Clark County jail on Feb. 15, followed by as many days on house arrest.
That leaves him free to celebrate his 50th birthday next week, the AP reported.
Last week, the rocker and “Skating with the Stars” alum said he accepted “full responsibility” for his arrest.
"I have recognized that you can't drink and drive at all,'' he told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in a statement.
Neil was busted June 27 for speeding in his Lamborghini near the Las Vegas strip.
Cops said at the time Neil failed three tests to determine if he was drunk and a breath test showed his blood alcohol content at nearly three times the legal limit.
Back in the ‘80s, Neil pleaded guilty to drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter for being behind the wheel in a crash that resulted in the death of Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley and that seriously injured two others.
He went on to serve 15 days of a 30-day jail sentence, paid $2.5 million to his victims and performed 200 hours of community service, according to E!
