It is night-time in a palatial mansion, and a dark figure is creeping through the garden. The figure uses a glass cutter to break in through the patio doors. Going upstairs, the interloper kneels over a recumbent woman in the master bedroom, then subjects her to a frenzied attack to the arms and chest with a straight razor. When the CSIs arrive at the crime scene, they discover that the victim, noted local philanthropist Margot Wilton, will survive the attack.

Langston and Willows notice on the upstairs landing that two photographs of a disabled child pictured with Wilton have been defaced, and that an awards plaque has been inexplicably turned around by the perpetrator. The pair then discover a strange set of tracks in Wilton's blood – alternating foot and hand prints in an unusual pattern.

CSI Baltimore: ABC Buys Edgar Allan Poe Detective Pilot

As "Pulp Fiction's" Jules Winnfield explained, "Some pilots get picked up and become television programs. Some don't - become nothing." So, you know, take the news with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Still...we can't resist the idea that ABC has, according to The Hollywood Reporter, purchased a pilot for a detective series starring Edgar Allan Poe. The show - fiction, obviously - imagines that in between writing "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket" and "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," Poe was skulking around 1840s Boston solving mysteries.

Oddly enough, this isn't the only historically-revisionist take on Poe being planned. John Cusack is currently hard at work on "The Raven," a feature film that puts Poe on the trail of a serial killer who kills people in ways eerily similar to methods described in the author's stories. "The Silence of the Ourang-Outangs" then?

Poe, of course, is credited with creating the detective novel as we know it."Rue Morgue" and "The Mystery of Marie Roget" - both starring his detective character C. Auguste Dupin - laid the groundwork for other great literary sleuths like Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and Batman.

Our only hope is that ABC goes hog wild with the proposed Poe series. Slap together a nice, slick "CSI: Miami" style opening ("Looks like someone's letter....[sunglasses on]....has been purloined. YEEEEEEEAAAAH!) and give Poe a wise-cracking raven sidekick ("Bwak! Don't trust her, Eddie! Bwak!) and we are 100% on board.

Now excuse us, we have to pitch a series about Herman Melville opening a "Deadliest Catch" -style fishing business...

Justin Bieber Returns To 'CSI' Set After Allergic Reaction Forces Hospital Visit

Justin Bieber returned to the set of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" on Thursday, after a brief hospitalization the day before, a rep for the star confirmed to Access Hollywood.

Justin went to the hospital after suffering an allergic reaction, the teen singer's rep told Access, adding, "He is fine. All is well."

According to Life & Style magazine, which first reported the news, the Biebs was taken to Providence St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, Calif., on Wednesday.

"He was having trouble breathing due to an allergic reaction," a source close to the singer claimed to the mag. "His doctor met him there. He stayed at the hospital about 30 minutes and was discharged."

A rep for CBS confirmed to Access Hollywood that Justin was back on set later the following day.

Justin Tweeted on Thursday about being back on the "CSI" set, but did not mention his hospital visit.

"Ok last day on the set as a #bada**. Gonna get deadly today," he Tweeted.

Earlier this week, Justin Tweeted a photo of himself with a large (fake) bruise on his face on the set.

Justin Bieber Returns to 'CSI' in February

Beliebers and unsuspecting 'CSI' fans alike, get ready for Justin Bieber's triumphant return to primetime!

TV Line reports that the pint-sized pop star is set to reprise his role as Jason, a troubled teen whose brother was eventually killed by the CSIs. Smart move, CBS. This stunt casting is just in time (or should I say, Justin time) for February sweeps!

This news comes shortly after rumors that 'Glee' plans to do a Biebs-themed episode in February as well. Unfortunately, Gossip Cop reported, this isn't quite the case. wasn't quite true. Creator Ryan Murphy does confirm, however, that an episode of 'Glee' will feature a Bieber track, and in Sam, played by Chord Overstreet, will fashion his hair into a Bieber swoop in an effort to win back Quinn, played by Dianna Argon.
