Superman is Cast, Let the Lois Lane Hunt Begin

Now that Zach Snyder has found the lynchpin of his Superman movie reboot - the titular man in blue, to be played by British actor Henry Cavill - it's now time to populate the rest of Metropolis. Which leads to the big question on everyone's lips:

Who will be Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen?

Until that's settled, we'll just have to amuse ourselves by running down the names that are swirling around the role of the Daily Planet's spunky ace reporter and the one woman who makes Clark Kent's glasses fog up: Lois Lane.

The biggest rumor involves an actress who knows a thing or two about flying around with aloof prettyboys - "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart. She has allegedly met with Snyder, but that could mean everything from "I want to be Lois" to "Excuse me, are you leaving or are you just getting something from your car?" So right now, file this under "unsubstantiated."

Another name getting play is "Prince of Persia" star Gemma Arterton, but would trying to get people to accept a British Lois be tougher than getting them onboard with a British Superman?

The rest of the field seems to be made up of idle speculation, left-field brainstorming, and utter nonsense - although more than a few of these ladies would be intriguing choices: Rachel McAdams, Rashida Jones. Maggie Q, Rose Byrne. Natalie Dormer (which would suggest Snyder has limited his casting sessions to "rewatching season one of "The Tudors"), Anna Paquin, and Snyder's "Watchmen" leading lady Malin Akerman.

Anne Hathaway's name has also been mentioned, as has Natalie Portman's. But seeing as Hathaway has just signed on to fight and/or romance Batman and Portman will next be seen snuggling up to a Norse god of Thunder, you can probably go ahead and scratch them off.

Cast: 'Modern Family' and 'Glee' Feud 'Totally Fine'

Though TV's top comedies 'Modern Family' and 'Glee' constantly go head-to-head at award ceremonies, cast members at the SAG Awards insisted there's no bad blood between the two shows.

Reports surfaced in December that 'Modern Family' patriarch Ed O'Neill criticized 'Glee' coach Jane Lynch's Emmy win for best supporting actress over his co-star Sofia Vergara.

However, O'Neill's on-screen granddaughter Sarah Hyland debunked reports that he slammed Lynch's win, according to E! News.

"Oh my God," Hyland said. "That was totally blown out of proportion! They took words out of his mouth. I promise he didn't say it that way."

O'Neill reportedly told TV Guide Canada, "I love Jane, honestly I do ... but I don't think she should have gotten the Emmy for that part. [Sue Sylvester] is just a one-note character."

"Ed was just, like I wish Sofia won because she's funny, too," Hyland continued, defending her co-star. "Who doesn't wish that someone from your cast wins over someone else? Who doesn't wish that? But everyone deserves the award they are getting."

Hyland's on-screen sister, Ariel Winter, only had the nicest things to say about the hit musical show.

"We'd love to win, but you know I have so many friends on 'Glee,'" Winter said. "They're so amazing, they have a great show. If they win I will be equally happy."

But it was 'Modern Family' who was celebrating at the SAG Awards, as the show took home the award for best comedy.

Madonna Planning to Take 'Glee' Cast on Tour

After 'Glee' paid homage to the Queen of Pop last year in a special episode showcasing her hits, including Jane Lynch's unique rendition of 'Vogue,' it's apparent Madonna became a fan of the musical comedy series, as she plans to take the cast on tour with her this year.

According to Britain's News of the World, the blond bombshell is looking to embark on a tour with the likes of 'Glee' stars Lea Michele and Corey Monteith. She reportedly plans on using segments of last year's tribute episode during the forthcoming concerts.

The 'Celebration' creator may be throwing in the towel after such a tour and wants this event to be one that'll leave a lasting impression on fans. "Madonna wants to break records and make her career bigger than ever," a source tells News of the World. "And because the 'Glee' episode featuring her music was such a hit, there are plans for the cast to appear. She is in amazing shape for her age but this could be her last big world tour she does for a while as she wants to concentrate on business ventures."

No stranger to commanding audiences with her stellar dance moves and outrageous outfits, Madonna last greeted loyal supporters onstage in 2008 and 2009, when she hit the road on the Sticky and Sweet Tour. The production turned out to be the highest grossing roadshow by a solo artist in history, pulling in $408 million.

'The King's Speech' Wins for Overall Cast at SAG Awards

The British monarchy saga "The King's Speech" won the best-actor trophy Sunday for Colin Firth and a second honor for its overall cast at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The two prizes capped a weeklong surge of Hollywood honors for the British monarchy saga, which is building momentum for the Feb. 27 Academy Awards, where the Facebook drama "The Social Network" previously had looked like the favorite.

Natalie Portman earned the best-actress award at the Screen Actors ceremony for "Black Swan," while "The Fighter" co-stars Christian Bale and Melissa Leo swept the supporting-acting honors, boosting their own prospects come Oscar night.

"The King's Speech" leads Oscar contenders with 12 nominations, among them best picture and actor for Firth, who has been the awards favorite virtually since the film premiered at festivals half a year ago.

"Until today, I would say probably, if ever I felt that I had a trophy which has told me that something's really happening for me, it was my SAG card," said Firth, who plays Queen Elizabeth's dad, George VI, as he takes the throne in the 1930s while struggling to overcome a debilitating stammer.

"Growing up in England, it's not something you expect to see in your wallet, really," Firth continued. "And so it has this glow, and I used to flash it around, hoping it would get me female attention, entry into nightclubs and top-level government departments. It didn't."

Many winners had gushing words for the protection and fellowship their union offers.

"I've been working since I was 11 years old, and SAG has taken care of me," said Portman, who won for her role as a ballerina losing her grip on reality. "They made sure I wasn't working too long and made sure I got an education while I was working."

Bale is a strong favorite for the supporting-actor Oscar as real-life fighter Dicky Eklund, whose career unraveled amid drugs and crime. Eklund briefly joined Bale on stage, the actor telling him he's "a real gentleman."

"I love acting. I love what we do," Bale said. "It's so bloody silly at times, isn't it? It's like playing dress-up, and other times it is so meaningful. I just enjoy that so much -- we get to walk in other people's shoes. Life without empathy is no fun at all. "

Leo, who plays the domineering matriarch of a boxing family in "The Fighter," was speechless for a long moment after taking the stage.

"I'm much better when I have my words written for me and somebody's costumes to put on," said Leo, 50, an Oscar nominee two years ago for "Frozen River" who had success earlier in her career on TV's "Homicide: Life on the Street" but has caught a second wind at an age when many actresses find roles scarce. "This has been an extraordinary season for me."

Betty White, who is having her own career resurgence in her 80s, won for TV comedy actress for "Hot in Cleveland."

"I must say this is the biggest surprise I've ever had in this business. There wasn't a prayer. I am so lucky to be ... at 89, to be working ...," White said, pausing as the crowd interrupted her with effusive applause. "You didn't applaud when I turned 40."
Alec Baldwin won his fifth-straight guild award for best actor in a comedy series for "30 Rock."

"I don't know what to say. This is ridiculous. I'm so happy," Baldwin said. "We've had a great year with the show."

"Modern Family" won for overall cast performance in a TV comedy.

Steve Buscemi of "Boardwalk Empire" and Julianna Margulies of "The Good Wife" won as best actors in a TV drama. "Boardwalk Empire," a Prohibition-era gangster series, also won for overall TV drama cast performance.

Buscemi's thanks included a shout out and congratulations to Martin Scorsese, who won a Directors Guild of America Award prize the night before for directing the pilot episode of "Boardwalk Empire." Scorsese was ill and unable to attend.

"Marty, we love you. We hope you feel better, and we love working with you. Please come back," Buscemi said.

Margulies had warm words for her in-laws "for producing truly the most spectacular human being, who I get to call my husband."

Before the show began, the guild presented its award for film stunt ensemble to the sci-fi blockbuster "Inception" and the TV stunt prize to the vampire drama "True Blood."

"The Social Network," chronicling the rise of Facebook, had been the early Oscar favorite for best-picture, named the year's top drama by key critics groups and the Golden Globes.

But "The King's Speech" has surged forward in the past week, pulling upset wins at the Directors Guild and Producers Guild awards and leading the Oscar field at last Tuesday's nominations. "The Social Network" had two SAG nominations but came away empty-handed.

Last year's individual winners at the guild awards -- Bridges for "Crazy Heart," Sandra Bullock for "The Blind Side," Mo'nique for "Precious" and Christoph Waltz for "Inglourious Basterds" -- all went on to win at the Oscars.

The cast prize, considered the guild's equivalent of a best-picture honor, has a spotty record at predicting the top Oscar winner.
The recipient of the guild's cast award has gone on to claim best-picture at the Oscars only seven of 15 years since SAG added that prize. Last year's guild cast recipient, "Inglourious Basterds," lost out to "The Hurt Locker" in the Oscar best-picture race.

The 17th annual SAG Awards, held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, included a life-achievement honor for Ernest Borgnine.

"We are a privileged few who have been chosen to work in this field of entertainment," said the 94-year-old Borgnine, whose award was preceded by a tribute including clips from his Oscar-winning performance in 1955's "Marty" through his role in last fall's action comedy "Red." "I hope that we will never let our dedication to our craft fail, that we will always give the best we possibly can to our profession."

British actor Henry Cavill cast as Superman

British actor Henry Cavill is going up, up and away.

Cavill will star as Superman (and, obviously, Clark Kent) in the next installment of the movie franchise. Warner Bros. Pictures announced the casting Sunday.

The film is to be directed by "300" director Zack Snyder, who says in a statement Cavill is "the perfect choice to don the cape and 'S' shield."

No title has been announced for the film, which is intended to reboot the franchise after its latest incarnation fizzled. The 2006 movie "Superman Returns" was directed by Bryan Singer and starred Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel.

Cavill is relatively unknown. He had been considered for the blockbuster roles of Batman, James Bond and even the previous version of Superman. He co-starred on Showtime's "The Tudors."

Warner Bros. is targeting December 2012 for release.

John Krasinski: 'The Office' Cast Is Still Processing Steve Carell's Exit

John Krasinski says the team at “The Office” has decidedly mixed feelings about long-time boss Steve Carell's imminent departure.

“I think we're just in the process of handling it,” Krasisnki tells PopcornBiz. I'm quite sure that none of us are going to know what to do when Steve actually leaves. I think it will be an incredibly emotional day. And the truth is there's absolutely nobody who could bring the same ingredients that he brings to the show and there's no way we could replace the person. It's a really big deal for us.”

“On the flipside, it's really, really exciting,” he adds, “because over all these years we've been developing these amazing characters and background. I'm really excited to get back to some of the more mundane office life that we all know and love. But also, it will be really interesting to see how the characters themselves react to who's the ‘new’ Michael Scott.”

Krasinski says the sitcom won’t just move on, in the way some TV shows have simply plugged in a new star and kept plugging forward: the characters will feel the absence of Michael Scott as keenly as the cast will miss Carell.

“The general idea is people think that we're going to replace him and keep going,” he says, “but there's definitely going to be that sense of loss for the characters, too, which is really, really cool and honest, and that's always been the best part of our show in a way.”

“The relationships that you love will be exercised even more, like pranks between Dwight and I and things like that, and just seeing how this family works,” Krasinksi adds. “The terrible thing would be if Steve left and we hadn't developed all these people. But instead we have the most talented group of people around. And it's so much fun to pass the ball and see everybody run with it.”

Krasinski says that Carell’s role as the cast’s leader has been the polar opposite of Michael Scott’s ill-conceived style.

“I think what a lot of people don't know is the duality that Steve lives in, which is he's incredibly funny, but he's not like a jokester,” he says. “He's a very reserved, very gentleman-like guy. He leads by example: when days are long, if it's going to get to one person, it's going to get to him and he never lets anybody see him sweat, so because of that we all band together. And at the same time when he turns it on for the show, he's truly, deadly funny. I think he's got some of the sharpest wit I've ever known.”

“As a fan and as a friend, it's been the most wonderful experience working with him.”

'Jersey Shore' Cast -- We're Goin' to Italy!!!

The entire "Jersey Shore" cast is finally getting THE BOOT -- because we're told the plan is to shoot Season 4 in Italy!

Sources connected to the show tell us they will be scouting locations in Italy -- similar to the way they did it in Miami -- to find the right locale.

One source connected with the show says they've already lined up some of Vinny's Italian relatives to host the "Jersey" crew for an authentic Guadagnino dinner.

And we're told ... two months ago execs began working on getting visas for the cast and crew.

Of course, the whole thing is contingent on whether the Italian government lets them in the country!!

Glee Cast Celebrates Naya's Birthday in Vegas, Daily Mail Bitter they Weren't Invited

She plays a bitchy, backstabbing cheerleader on hit show Glee.

But Naya Rivera was not short of friends to help her toast her 24th birthday in Las Vegas this weekend.

And her fellow Glee clubbers certainly their hair down in sin city as they partied hard at The Bank Nightclub in the Bellagio hotel.

The group, which included star Cory Monteith, as well as Heather Morris, Harry Shum, Jenna Ushkowitz, Chord Overstreet, Kevin McHale and Amber Riley, looked like they'd been at the champagne as they sang Happy Birthday.

While she is in a supporting role onscreen, there was little doubt who was the leading lady at last night's birthday bash. And she played up to the occasion.

Naya, who plays Cheerio Santana, dazzled in a bronze sequinned dress and towering nude heels.

Posing inside the venue, the stunning brunette worked the tiny dress, which showed off her figure with its short hemline and plunging back.

The Glee students are not exactly known for their clean cut antics on the show, and the stars were not shy in letting loose in Las Vegas.

Amber Riley and Chord Overstreet appeared decidedly dishevelled at the party, as Jenna Ushkowitz and Heather Morris giggled and struggled to stay upright.

Meanwhile Kevin McHale blatantly ogled the attractive blonde waitress presenting Naya with her cake.

Cory Monteith appeared to miss out on the birthday cake, but may have been hitting up the casino, tweeting during the night: 'Vegas! Betting it all. Red or black?'

Missing from the festivities were Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Dianna Agron.

Lea, who stars as good girl Rachel Barry, was held up with mysterious work commitments in Los Angeles.

The actress tweeted: 'It's very rare that u could have so much fun working on a weekend! Can't spill the beans yet as 2 what I was up 2 2day..but it was awesome! (sic)'

Mark Salling, who portrays bad boy Puck on the show, was also noticeably absent.

He and Naya were an item during the first season of the show, but broke up when heartthrob Mark said he was 'not in a committed or exclusive relationship.'

The pair were later forced to deny internet rumours that Rivera had egged and keyed his car when she found out he was seeing other women.

Despite his absence from her birthday, both have insisted they are the 'best of friends.'

The entire cast is riding high after taking home three awards at last week's Golden Globes, including Best Supporting actor gongs for Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch.

A sneak preview of a song from their highly anticipated Superbowl episode, to be aired after the game in the U.S. on February 6, has been released.

The gang sing a mash-up of Michael Jackson's Thriller and Yeah Yeah Yeah‘s Heads Will Roll.

'You can never re-create something as incredible as Thriller, and I don’t think we’re trying to,' Lea Michele recently told Entertainment Weekly. 'We’re making it our own.'

Anne Hathaway Cast as Catwoman in 'Dark Knight Rises'

Catwoman is returning to the big screen, and Anne Hathaway is putting on the claws. Christopher Nolan announced in a statement Tuesday that Hathaway will join Tom Hardy and Christian Bale in his latest 'Batman' film, 'The Dark Knight Rises,' according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story," Nolan said.

Hardy, who starred in Nolan's last film 'Inception,' will play Batman's nemesis Bane. News broke of Hardy's casting back in October.

"I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman's most formidable enemies," Nolan said.

Hathaway has long been on Nolan's shortlist of actresses, which included names like Jessica Biel and Keira Knightley, vying for a part in the forthcoming 'Batman' film. Actresses have been testing for the part opposite Bale for the last few weeks, the report says.

Catwoman was iconically portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer in Tim Burton's 1992 smash 'Batman Returns.' Halle Berry starred in a spinoff film not related to the 'Batman' franchise in 2004.

This is the second time Bane will be included in a 'Bat' film -- he was Poison Ivy's muscleman in 'Batman & Robin' in 1997.

Before Nolan's confirmation, rumors swirled that Hardy would play Dr. Hugo Strange.

'The Dark Knight Rises' will be released on July 20, 2012.
