Steve Carell, a nominee at tonight's Golden Globe Awards (Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series - Comedy or Musical), has had a long career at 'The Office.' He even won the Globe in 2006 for his work on the series.
Still, last year's announcement that he'd be leaving the cast at the end of this season was a jolt. Would paper sales in Scranton -- and Thursday nights on NBC, for that matter -- ever be the same without Michael Scott?
You'd expect the entire season to culminate with the milestone moment of Michael's good-bye. But leave it to 'The Office' to embrace awkward timing!
NBC now says the farewell is actually going to happen well before the season 7 finale in May.
Why the early exit? According to the Huffington Post, the show's executive producer, Greg Daniels, confirmed that Carell's character will be written off the show before this season's last episode; the remaining weeks will reportedly see Dunder-Mifflin "scrambling to replace him."
The last four episodes of this season will be Carell-free, as NBC explained on Friday. So the party-planning committee better pick up the pace, since Carell's last scenes will likely air in April.

NeNe to Leave 'Real Housewives'?
Andy Cohen is going to have a lot to talk to "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" star, NeNe Leakes, about when she appears on his talk show, "Watch What Happens: Live" tonight.
They just finished shooting the reunion special last Wednesday and NeNe's finally able to talk about being on Season 4 of "The Celebrity Apprentice." But when it comes to the next season of the Bravo reality series, NeNe dropped a bomb on us.
"I'm not really interested in joining the next season," NeNe tells Zap2it. "I'm just not really interested right now."
Bam! She said that just as our conversation came to a close. So, other than saying her desire to leave the series has nothing to do with her feud with cast mate, Kim Zolciak, she was unable to tell us why she doesn't feel like returning for another season. So, we do hope Andy gets the rest of the scoop on Sunday night's show.
Maybe... "The Celebrity Apprentice" awakened her entrepreneurial spirit? NeNe told us she wants to focus on being an independent woman: She's currently working on a shoe line, a handbag line, her local Atlanta talk segment and a desire to go behind-the-scenes producing radio and TV shows.
