The two giants of the EPL, Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC faced each other in Stamford Bridge, London, England.
The first half started with the supporters of Liverpool booing Fernando Torres every time he played. In the beginning of the first half, John Mikel Obi (Chelsea midfielder) was booked for a nasty tackle against Liverpool midfielder Steve Gerrard.
Chelsea was in possession for most of the game with Liverpool being too close for comfort. The last few minutes of the first half left too much to be desired.
The teams were not playing a decent game with poor passing, poor control and lack of coordination among both teams.
There were also some arguments between team members on both teams.
Dider Drogba attempted a free kick but failed with Lampard responding with a cross that was comic. A clash of the Titans was expected but instead there was a crash Of Titans.
The first half ended with Petr Cech and Branislav Ivanovic shouting at each other. The match remained scoreless.
During halftime, we could reflect that both teams started well but the match left much to be desired. What happened to Chelsea in this match?
What was the reason to sign Torres and Luiz? Why did Chelsea spent so much money in the January transfer window?
Is this the result that we need and want as Blues supporters? I can only imagine what Roman Abramovich and Carlo Ancelotti were thinking?
Liverpool FC also played poorly and it appears that they have not recovered from Fernando Torres signing with the Blues.
I give both teams a failing grade in passing, control, consistency and discipline.
The second half started as a disaster with a terrible pass from Liverpool midfielders Leiva Lucas and Steve Gerard.
I am beginning to wander if some of the players were worth the money Liverpool and Chelsea invested in. The possibility could be that both teams are playing under pressure or that they just want to finish the game.
The agony was to continue like a slow-motion film of two trains colliding.
Gerrard did another terrible pass while Glen Johnson's attempted shot went off target. Fernando Torres is also feeling the pressure and was performing poorly, although Ashley Cole tried to save the situation.
Unfortunately, Cole attempted a shot at the goal post and it went off target as well. Torres was trying to make his presence but was tackled by Liverpool. I am beginning to think that Chelsea might have made a mistake by signing him.
In an attempt to salvage the match, Torres is substituted by Salomon Kalou. It is hoped that Kalou would be a better striker than Torres. Regardless, the match has become a farce as well as an act of public humiliation.
Essien went off target and Liverpool gets back on track with the first goal of the game by Raul Meireles.
Gerrard tried to float the ball towards Cech who was indecisive. Raul Meireles took advantage of Cech and was able to kick the ball into the goal post.
Chelsea attempted two substitutions such as Malouda for Mikel and Luiz for Boswinga but it was too late. Lampard attempted an equalizer but was blocked by Reina.
Liverpool is not out of the woods as Lucas received a booking for his actions against Kalou. Aurelio replaces Maxi in an attempt to maintain some momentum. Christian Poulsen replaced Meireles for the same reason.
I think that Chelsea will have to go back to the drawing board if it wants to salvage its remaining EPL season. It can also use some advice for future EPL seasons.
Chelsea 0-1 Liverpool
Stamford Bridge, London, England
While Raul Meireles scored, I cannot name a most valued player since the match was an act of public humiliation for both teams from start to finish.
