Super Bowl Commercials 2011: The Aliens Are Coming To An Ad (And Theater) Near You

Shortly after Joe Gibbs, Donovan McNabb and assorted other NFL figures past and present read us the Declaration of Independance, the first wave of Aliens attacked.

The commercial for "Battle: Los Angeles" -- a little movie about a Marine platoon that squares off against an alien invasion in Los Angeles, naturally -- was the first of, technically, four alien-invasion themed-movies that displayed new traliers during the Super Bowl. (Unless that Kung Fu Panda fella is from another planet; ping me if you have the details.)

That's right, Los Angeles: You can't have an NFL team yet, but you sure can get pummeled by creatures from Outer Space during the Super Bowl. Pretty much the opposite of Super Bowl XXVIII.

Next up was "Cowboys & Aliens," essentially the closest we've come to seeing Han Solo and Indiana Jones merged into one character. And it takes place in Arizona in 1873, so, Tatooine.

Get a look at the trailer and more Super Bowl movie commercials after the jump.

Other movie ads we saw before the Super Bowl halftime show:

- "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," which has nothing to do with Pink Floyd and a lot to do with Michael Bay. Turns out the robot aliens have been here forever, and they're here to destroy another American city. I assume they finally emerged from the box in my parents' garage.

- "Super 8," which has nothing to do with an inexpensive hotels and features the only Trailer you couldn't see before tonight's game. It may involve aliens making home movies, though. Seriously.

Important note: Thor is not an alien, he is the Asgardian God of Thunder.
