Within hours of being hospitalized Thursday morning, Charlie Sheen's ex-wife Denise Richards was at his bedside once again doing everything in her power to help the troubled father of their two daughters. Sources close to the actress tell me she has joined his famous father in calling for Charlie to enter rehab.
"Denise is heartbroken and fears the day when she gets the call saying Charlie is no longer alive," a friend of the actress tells me.
This time, I'm told, is different, and Denise has decided that she is going to do whatever it takes to make Charlie realize he needs help. First things first, she believes he needs a new inner circle of friends.
"Charlie surrounds himself with yes people," an insider tells me. "If you say no to him, then you are out of his life. Denise is one of the only people that could convince him. It wouldn't be the first time Denise has begged for him to get the help he needs, but everyone is hoping that this time he listens to her."
Sheen's dad, Martin, has also reportedly signaled that he wants his son to seek help immediately. "Martin is extremely upset, as you can imagine," a source close to the family told RadarOnline.com. "He's worried Charlie is going to kill himself."
Charlie left the hospital in secret Thursday night and his publicist, Stan Rosenfield, hinted that he has no plans to enter rehab. "He will be on the set of 'Two and a Half Men' on Tuesday," he said in a statement.
After three years of marriage, Denise and Charlie went through a bitter public divorce that was finalized in November 2006. At first, the couple agreed to shared custody of daughters Sam, 6, and Lola, 5, but last year Charlie signed parental rights over to Denise.
Charlie's prolonged meltdown, which came to a head during his rampage in a NYC hotel back in October, is putting the brutally honest Denise in an awkward position with her kids.
"It is becoming harder and harder for Denise to protect her daughters from what's going on as they get older," the star's close friend tells me. "She's an amazing mother and will not let Charlie leave these two beautiful little angels without a father. If she can't convince Charlie to get help simply because it's what he needs, then she hopes he will for the sake of his daughters."
It was a hernia that triggered the "severe abdominal pains" that sent Charlie to the hospital after a 36-hour party bender that reportedly included doing cocaine and watching porn with at least five women.
But Sheen's publicist tells me, "I have no firsthand knowledge of any of this. I have heard all of rumors you have. He [Charlie] has had a history of having this type of hernia, and the person who made the 911 call said he had severe stomach pains and said it was from a hernia condition. Since she is not a doctor, I did not extend her medical knowledge to the media."
According to PEOPLE, it was Dr. Paul Nassif and his wife Adrienne Maloof-Nassif, two stars of Bravo 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' and Sheen's neighbors, who called for help.
Good luck, Denise. The time has come for someone (and it's not going to be CBS as long as Charlie remains a ratings powerhouse) to save Charlie from himself.

Derek Jeter, Yankees Teammates Get Honest Assessment From Straight-Shootin' Brian Cashman
If ever there were a baseball team you'd expect to act like a big corporation - releasing deceptive statements, speaking in indecipherable jargon, and generally just obfuscating the truth - it'd be the New York Yankees, who're prepared to run with a payroll nearly six times that of last year's AL East champion. The Yankees are a business more than any other team is a business, and they've made that work as their identity.
And yet, of late, something has come over the front office. Something truthful, something refreshingly honest. Last week, at Rafael Soriano's introductory press conference, general manager Brian Cashman informed the media that he was against the acquisition. And Tuesday, in a breakfast hosted by Mike Francesca, Cashman again was surprisingly candid.
In response to a question from Francesca on the state of the division:
Francesa: Who's better team today - Red Sox or Yankees?
Cashman: Red Sox. But we have better bullpen.
And later, in response to a fan:
Fan: what happens with Jeter?
Cashman: I'd be surprised if he plays SS for all 4 years. I see him moving to OF.
As far as the first blockquote is concerned, Cashman made no effort to hide the fact that he badly wants another starter. The Yankees are currently set to throw CC Sabathia, Phil Hughes, and a trio of question marks, and there's no denying that could be a problem.
And as for the second, this one isn't so directly honest, but if you read between the lines, I think the meaning is revealed. Cashman doesn't think that Jeter will be much of a shortstop by the end of his deal. One wouldn't expect Jeter to decline from great to poor in the span or three or four years. A decline is probable, but not a decline of that magnitude, suggesting the highest Cashman might rate Jeter's current defense is "fair". That, of course, is about the best anyone would say about Jeter's defense right now, but you'd expect the Yankees to speak a little more glowingly.

Over the past 13 years, he's done an admirable job of handling the pressure while achieving steady success, but it seems the stress has finally worn him to the point at which he's lost the will to misdirect. Keith Olbermann -- The Rich Get Richer
Keith Olbermann scored an even sweeter exit package than previously reported. Sources connected with NBC tells us Keith is pocketing "well in excess" of $7 million.
Sources tell us ... Olbermann was due for two salary hikes during the last two years of his contract, which would have netted him just over $17 million. The exit deal, we're told, gives Keith much more than $7 million, though our sources would not be more specific.
And we're told ... Olbermann agreed as part of his exit deal not to do television, but our sources say he'll be benched for less than 4 1/2 months. Conan O'Brien had to sit out twice that amount of time.
And speaking of Conan, we're told attorney Patty Glaser, who negotiated Conan's exit from the same network, did the heavy lifting for Keith, along with his agent and manager. We're told negotiations for the exit went on for seven weeks.

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade get start
The Heat will have two of their stars back for Tuesday night's game against the Atlanta Hawks.
Dwyane Wade and LeBron James are both in Miami's starting lineup.
Wade had been expected to play after a sore knee caused him to miss Monday's practice and Tuesday morning's shootaround.
"I'm going to be good to go no matter what," said Wade, who banged knees with Bulls center Kurt Thomas on Saturday. "I'm trying to get the swelling out. After two days of rest I feel better."
James also missed the morning workout and had been labeled a game-time decision with a sprained ankle suffered in a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. After getting treatment Monday, James declared himself ready to play. The two-time reigning MVP had missed two straight games, losses to Denver and Chicago.
"No matter who's on the floor ... we've got to find a way to get a win versus one of the hottest teams in the league," Wade said prior to Tuesday's game.
The third member of the Heat's Big Three, Chris Bosh, missed the game with a sprained left ankle suffered against the Bulls.
"He's making progress," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of Bosh. "He's moving around better today. Certainly not ready to run and explode off of it, but if you saw the footage, the replay of it, we're just thankful it's minor at this point."
Joel Anthony was in the starting lineup to replace Bosh as the team is already without backup Udonis Haslem.
"We do have versatility on the roster," Spoelstra said. "This is probably the time it'll show the most, playing guys that weren't necessarily playing big minutes, they'll be able to step up and have their opportunity."
The Hawks have won six of their past seven games and bring a four-game road winning streak to Miami.

Jennifer Lopez "Would Love" To Get Pregnant Again
Jennifer Lopez has her new gig on "American Idol" and new music on the radio, and now the mother of two says she's also open to having more kids – if it were to happen.
Jennifer stopped by Access Hollywood Live On Tuesday, where Kit Hoover asked, "Any more kids possibly? Down the road after 'Idol'?"
"I don't know, we'll see," she told Billy Bush and Kit.
"Two is a lot," Billy said, referring to her two-year-old twins, Max and Emme.
"Yeah two is… look I would love it, if I got pregnant, if that happened right now, I'd be like, 'Oh my God I'm pregnant everybody!' I'd be so happy," the 41-year-old explained.
"I don't know if it's going to happen for us," she said, referring to husband Marc Anthony. "Or if, you know, I would plan it… because right now I'm just getting back into the groove of working again and I missed it."
The new "Idol" judge explained that navigating career and family life is a challenge.
"[My career] was such a huge part of my life for so long… it's so much a part of who I am," she continued. "You lose that for a while when you have the babies, its all about them and it's just like, you know, miracle time."
The triple threat also dished about her struggle to maintain her sexy shape following the following the birth of her twins.
"After the babies my body did change and I had to work really hard to get it back in shape to be quite honest… and actually for the first time in my life I had to change my eating. It was awful," she explained.
"I just never ever thought about what I ate because I was always a very small eater," Jennifer told Billy and Kit. "But then with the babies, you learn to eat a lot and then you have to not do that all of a sudden when they're out and you're like, 'Wow, OK, I really liked this part!' And so it became kind of re-training myself again."

Pee-wee Herman, Andy Samberg, Anderson Cooper: How Wasted Can They Get?
In the latest 'Saturday Night Live' digital short, seen on last night's episode, binge-drinking Andy Samberg is a good, old-fashioned bad influence...on Pee-wee Herman!
After the two down shots in a rowdy bar, Samberg leads Pee-wee (Paul Reubens) into a full-fledged bender of furniture-breaking debauchery even the cops can't stop. Friends try to stage an intervention, but the new BFFs fail to see it through for more than a few super-serious, barely sober seconds.
And out of nowhere, Anderson Cooper pops up, brandishing his secret weapon: his likeable talent for making fun of the gravitas that has made him a media star (only NBC anchor Brian Williams rivals him in the self-deprecation department).

The episode, hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow, was a mixed bag, but drunk Pee Wee was a highlight.

Teams Get Behind Flood-Relief Effort
The limited-overs series between Australia and England will turn into one continuous flood-relief effort, as the situation worsens in parts of south-east Queensland. Twelve people have died in the floods but that number is likely to rise, and up to 20,000 homes are expected to be inundated in the state capital, Brisbane.
The Australia and England teams will be collecting donations in the crowd at the Adelaide Twenty20 international and it will be the first of many fundraising drives during the series. England's players will donate part of their match fees for the first Twenty20 to the flood relief appeal, as will their Australian counterparts, while Kevin Pietersen is keen to auction a shirt and bat he used during the Ashes to assist the flood victims, and Cricket Australia has donated $100,000 to flood relief.
Shane Warne and Darren Gough are also becoming involved, tweeting their interest in setting up a "legends" Twenty20 match to help raise funds. Cricket New South Wales will donate all gate receipts from their Big Bash match against Queensland on January 29, the day before the Brisbane ODI, which Queensland Cricket remains hopeful will go ahead.
"It's been really heartening to see how many people are so willing to stop and do something to help," Cricket Australia's spokesman Peter Young said. "Everyone is feeling the pain. It's really heartening to get calls from clubs in the community who are having sausage sizzles, and they're saying 'where do we send the money?' We have a program called Cricket Cares. What's been demonstrated today is that cricket does care.
"We decided a week or so ago that we, Commonwealth Bank and Channel Nine would run a fundraiser during the Brisbane ODI, on January 30. Given the deteriorating situation with the floods, we've decided to broaden that, so we're starting the fundraising tonight at the international T20 in Adelaide and we'll run fundraising through the matches culminating in the match at Brisbane."
The offices of Queensland Cricket in Brisbane have been sandbagged and the state's staff were working from home on Wednesday, as the city was in the grip of a major natural disaster. The Brisbane River was expected to peak at 5.5 metres on Thursday, which would be the worst flooding in the city in more than a century.

How Many First-Place AP Votes Will TCU Get? Not That Many...
And so, the 2010-2011 college football season comes to an end. Despite what Bill Hancock will surely tell you on Tuesday, the BCS did not "work." Here we are with an undefeated Auburn and an undefeated TCU at the end of the season, unable to take to the field and settle things like any sane sport would have them do.
You can argue whether or not TCU could beat Auburn all day because we'll never know. Auburn will be named the BCS National Champion and that will be that.
Or will it? What about the Associated Press? Last bastions of integrity, honesty and objectivity...surely if anyone will take a stand to right the egregious wrong that is the BCS, it's these muck-racking journalists. Right?
Eh...probably not.
And you can't really blame them. There's just not enough incentive to vote for TCU unfortunately. Furthermore, not enough compelling data to prove they were the best team. Say what you will of Auburn's boring win, they did beat a better opponent.
So far, I've seen a handful of AP voters proclaim their ballots and only one was even considering placing TCU at No. 1. Even then, it had more to do with how bad Auburn looked compared to how good TCU did.
The entire reason the AP got out of the BCS business is because they're here to report the news, not make it. It's going to take someone else to fix this broken system.

Did the Real Kennedys Get the Controversial 'The Kennedys' Miniseries Cancelled?
Did Caroline Kennedy and Maria Shriver influence the History Channel in its shelving of the controversial 'The Kennedys' miniseries? According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the two may have been instrumental in getting the Katie Holmes and Greg Kinnear starring miniseries off History's schedule.
It was previously reported that a network rep told THR in a statement regarding the cancellation, "After viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded that although the film is produced and acted with the highest quality auspices, the dramatic license the series takes is not suitable for the History brand."
THR is reporting that Caroline Kennedy personally lobbied Anne Sweeney, co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney/ABC Television Group. Sweeney sits on the board of A&E Television Networks, the parent company of History.
Kennedy has a book deal with Disney's Hyperion publishing house and is editing a collection of unpublished interviews with her mother, Jackie Kennedy Onasis. She agreed to promote the collection on 'Good Morning America' and other media outlets. However, if AETN had gone through with the project, it's been suggested Kennedy would not have been as cooperative in promoting the Hyperion book.
Maria Shriver, a member of the Kennedy family and wife to Arnold Schwarzenegger, also lobbied to have the project shelved. Shriver used her NBC Universal ties and voiced her displeasure to Jeff Zucker and Jeff Gaspin. Gaspin sits on the AETN board as well. Shriver is also friends with Sweeney. The Disney executive serves on the board of the Special Olympics, which was founded by Shriver's mother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
'Kennedys' co-producers Muse Entertainment and Asylum Entertainment issued the following statement about History's cancellation of the series: "We are proud of the work all of our talent put into the making of 'The Kennedys' and the painstaking efforts that went into creating a drama that is compelling while rich in historic detail. Although we regret this does not fit into the History Channel's plans, we are confident that television viewers in the United States will join viewers from around the world in having an opportunity to watch this series in the near future."
'The Kennedys' is still scheduled for international broadcast, airing in Canada on March 6. According to Deadline Hollywood, Showtime is reportedly mulling over airing the series.

'The Kennedys' is still scheduled for international broadcast, airing in Canada on March 6. According to Deadline Hollywood, Showtime is reportedly mulling over airing the series.
