Eminem Plans a Return to the Big Screen, But Can He Forge a Successful Acting Career?

Nine years after his electrifying performance in the semi-autobiographical '8 Mile,' Eminem is planning his return to film in the upcoming thriller 'Random Acts of Violence.'

The reclusive rapper, whose 2010 album 'Recovery' was the best-selling album of the year, continues to work his way back into the national consciousness with a series of upcoming film roles. In addition to 'Violence,' the rapper is currently in production on the 3-D horror film 'Shady Talez' and the boxing-themed drama 'Southpaw.'

But as fans of both hip-hop and film know, the confluence of emcees and movies is not always the best fit. For every Mos Def in 'The Woodsman,' there's DMX in 'Cradle 2 the Grave.' For every Ludacris in 'Crash,' there's, well, Ludacris in 'Fred Claus.'

"I think it's a good role for Eminem," says Jake Paine, editor-in-chief of influential hip-hop website HipHopDX.com. "But I think we're all skeptical about 'rapper movies.' Still, Eminem, more than almost anybody in the last 10 years, has the potential to follow in the Fresh Prince [Will Smith] or Marky Mark's [Mark Wahlberg] ascent to legitimate acting."

Smith and Wahlberg have long solidified their presences in Hollywood and shed -- or matured, depending on your point of view -- their former careers. But both had all but retired from hip-hop when their acting careers began. (Smith would later reboot his musical career as a solo artist in 1997, but only after firmly establishing his acting career.) Juggling music and acting simultaneously is a much more difficult endeavor.

"I thought it was about time," admits Mecca, editor-at-large of hip-hop magazine The Source. "It's all he needed to complete a successful return. The script and storyline seem strong and expanding his resume with films is a great look."

According to Vulture, 'Random Acts of Violence' began as the cinematic equivalent to 'Grand Theft Auto,' the ultraviolent video game that emerged as one of the decade's most popular games. But 20th Century Fox shifted tone and brought in 'Californication' director David Von Ancken, who ditched the cars and created "a thriller more akin to 'The Town' or 'The Departed.'" The rapper will play an ex-con torn between his past partners in crime and the FBI agents hoping he'll wear a wire to bring them down.

Baby on Board for Selma Blair, Actress Joins Hollywood Baby Boom

Hollywood's recent baby boom just gained little more momentum from actress Selma Blair! The 38-year-old 'Hellboy' actress is reportedly "ecstatic" about the unexpected news.

A source tells Star magazine that Selma and her boyfriend of less than a year, fashion designer Jason Bleick, have no immediate plans to wed. Selma was married to musician Frank Zappa's son Ahmet from 2004 to 2006.

The source continues that Selma "never thought she could be this happy." The actress has yet to release a statement about her pregnancy and no details of the due date have been disclosed.

Selma's had a long and steadily successful career in film and television, and is a rare star who's managed to stay out of the tabloids. She played 'Kim' alongside comedian Molly Shannon in NBC's short lived remake of the Australian sitcom 'Kath & Kim.' Many remember her for her part in the 1999 drama 'Cruel Intentions,' where she starred alongside Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe.

Selma's baby will have lots of playmates in tinsel town! Actors Owen Wilson, Kate Hudson and Marion Cotillard are also expecting.

But with a designer for a dad, we're willing to bet Selma's baby has the cutest clothes of all! Congratulations to Selma and all the soon-to-be new parents in Hollywood!

The Beaver' to Premiere at South by Southwest; Will Mel Gibson Show?

Mel Gibson and his beaver are headed to Texas.

No, that's not slang for something dirty. Academy Award winner Gibson and his feature film 'The Beaver' will be premiering at the Austin, Texas international film festival 'South by Southwest.' AP reports that 'The Beaver' will one of five films premiering there this March.

Jodie Foster directed and co-stars in the quirky movie, which features Gibson's character developing an unusual relationship with a beaver puppet he created to help separate the whirlwind stresses of his life.

This July, Gibson was dropped by his talent agency in light of domestic violence allegations. The actor has maintained a low profile since the incident, which was one of many since 1991 that have all but mauled his public image. An appearance at 'The Beaver's' premiere would be a big step for Gibson, although his current publicist is unsure whether the actor will be in attendance. Check out the trailer for 'The Beaver' after the jump.

First Look: Andrew Garfield as 'Spider-Man'

The first official image of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man has been released, courtesy of Columbia Pictures.

Dark, disheveled, and skinny, is probably the best way to describe this first image of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. He's without the mask, which leaves us a little more to look forward to, and based on that scar, as well as the expression on his face, the iconic superhero has just been through one of the toughest battles of his young career as the webbed crusader.

He's got a backpack slung over his shoulder, which is there to remind us that this is the beginning -- this is Peter Parker in high school, dealing with these new powers and learning about being Spider-Man as he goes, finding it may not be all it's cracked up to be. He's weak; he doesn't 'get it' yet.

As far as the suit goes, it looks updated, but still familiar enough for fans. We like the lack of muscles and frenetic spider graphic on his chest, as if he has no clue what he is or what he's doing.

This comes as good news for Spider-Man fans as all is not well in the Spidey universe. The Wall Street Journal reports that the problem-plagued Broadway musical 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' has once again pushed back its opening night.

This is the fourth time the show has delayed its first official performance, now scheduled for March 15. The show's received a lot of negative attention, for bad reviews and the multiple sidelining injuries incurred by the actors and crew.

'Spider-Man' Broadway Musical Delayed for Fourth Time

If your spidey senses were tingling Thursday night, you might head over to the Great White Way and lend a hand on set. The Wall Street Journal reports that the problem-plagued Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" has once again pushed back its opening night.

This is the fourth time the show has delayed its first official performance, now scheduled for March 15. The show's received a lot of negative attention, for bad reviews and the multiple sidelining injuries incurred by the actors and crew.

A statement released by the show said they needed time to work on a new ending. Some theatergoers have been confused by what went down after intermission.

"We simply need more time to fully execute the creative team's vision before freezing the show," said lead producer Michael Cohl. He then reassured audiences this would be the "final postponent" of the show, which has been in an usually long preview period of more than 15 weeks.

Despite 'Spider-Man's' rather tumultuous start in theater, the clearly popular show was the number one musical on Broadway. I vote they keep working out those set kinks, brush off the critics and if at all possible, bring James Franco on board. Multi-talented Harry Osborn could undoubtedly weave a web of gold. .

'Real Housewives' Careers: Ranking the Most and Least Likely to Succeed

Andy Warhol was right -- in the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes. For some, those minutes sustain longer than expected. In the world of Bravo TV, the 'Real Housewives' franchise has proven a huge success, establishing its stars -- from the ladies of Orange County and Beverly Hills to their cohorts on the East Coast and in between -- as household names and frequent tabloid fodder.

Though several fulfill the more traditional "housewife" title, others like Vicki Gunvalson, Phaedra Parks and Kandi Burruss were established career women from the get-go. Now the tremendous exposure and popularity of the series has allowed a number of the 'Housewives' to bank on their celebrity and embark on careers more suited to established Hollywood glitterati, which begs the question: How long will their post-'Housewives' endeavors actually last? After the jump, see our predictions of the most and least likely to succeed.

From authors to songstresses, the 'Housewives' have traveled down gilded career paths, but once they depart their respective series or if Bravo cancels a show, will their careers endure? We took a look at some of the 'Housewives' post-show endeavors and rank them from 'most likely' to 'least likely' to last.

Most Likely to Suceed: Bethenny Frankel (chef/author)

One of the smartest, most successful 'Housewives,' Bethenny had already fashioned herself as the "natural food chef" when the first season of 'The Real Housewives of New York City' began. But as her popularity soared, so did her talents at marketing herself into a successful brand -- Skinnygirl margarita, anyone? She parlayed that growing popularity into her own spinoff show, two best-selling books and a workout DVD.

Bethenny still needs Bravo exposure, but it's likely she'll continue her career high because she stuck to what she knows.

Second Most Likely to Succeed: Sheree Whitfield (fashion designer/aspiring actress)

After much ado, sassy Atlanta 'Housewives' star Sheree managed to pull off a successful fashion show featuring her line, She by Sheree, which debuted at Fashion Week. This season, however, Sheree has been focusing on her budding acting career.

Given her sense of style and sophistication, Sheree proved she has the vision to become a successful fashion designer -- if only she nips this puzzling acting bug in the bud. She claimed, however, to be done with fashion on the current season of 'Real Housewives of Atlanta.'

May or May Not Succeed: Alex McCord and fellow 'Housewives' authors

Several 'Housewives' have published books, including Alex McCord and LuAnn deLesseps of New York and Teresa Giudice of New Jersey. Ranging from etiquette rules (deLessep's 'Class With the Countess') to parenting advice (Alex and hubby's tome), these 'Housewives' have managed to succumb to the most predictable path of celebrities: becoming flash-in-the-pan authors.

It's safe to say McCord and co. won't embark on literary careers, and that this phase shall also pass.

Not So Likely to Succeed: Kim Zolciak (singer)

The only professional songstress in the 'Housewives' family is Atlanta's Kandi, who managed to catapult Kim's career. (Even Orange County's Gretchen Rossi got into the singing mix with a song out last year.) The butt of many jokes on the show, Kim seems determined to continue singing; her website declares, "The pop music scene is one that Kim Zolciak plans to conquer" -- no doubt with a lot of help from Bravo and Kandi.

One can't help but wonder if Bravo eventually feels the need to replace the housewives with a host of new characters, whether Kim will continue to ride Kandi's coattails or retire from the music world with the last laugh.

Least Likely to Succeed: NeNe Leakes (author and TV journalist)

NeNe, possibly the most gregarious of the Atlanta housewives, penned a tell-all memoir, 'Never Make the Same Mistake Twice: Lessons on Love and Life Learned the Hard Way.' This season, she has been hired by a TV station in Atlanta for entertainment segments. No doubt Leakes was hired for the appearance on her hit show and connections to Atlanta's who's-who, but a knack for hard-hitting, in-depth interviews is not a natural talent, but acquired through years of on-the-job practice.

We love NeNe, but even Larry King couldn't master the TV thing after decades on air. We sadly predict NeNe's current position will last as long as Kim's singing career.

'Jersey Shore' Star to Ditch the Nickname?

Could this be the last we hear of Snooki? Maybe, according to 'Jersey Shore' star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi.

Since rising to fame -- or, to some, infamy -- Polizzi's real name has fallen to the wayside to make room for her catchy moniker, which has become synonymous with the MTV hit reality show.

But is she getting tired the nickname?

"I miss my real name. I miss people calling me Nicole," she told the AP.

Polizzi, 23, is making the press rounds this month promoting her first book, 'A Shore Thing,' which she co-wrote with a ghostwriter. The book chronicles two girls' adventures during a summer at the Jersey Shore.

Sounds familiar, but maybe it's just us.

On top of her book tour, Polizzi is enjoying the record-setting ratings of MTV's 'Jersey Shore,' which brought in 8.45 million viewers with its third season premiere on Jan. 6, according to the AP.

When asked if there's a possibility of a Snooki spinoff show, a deal similar to cast member Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio's reported new show, Polizzi said it's certainly a possibility.

"Of course, if the opportunity is given to me, I'm gonna run with it," she said. However, there are no current plans in the works.

Willow, Jaden Smith Earn NAACP Image Award Nominations

The Smith family certainly has talent. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith's children, Willow and Jaden, have both earned NAACP Image Award nominations for their work in the past year.

According to PEOPLE, Jaden, 12, is up for Outstanding Actor thanks to his role in last summer's 'The Karate Kid,' while little sis Willow, 10, has two nominations for Best New Artist and Outstanding Music Video for her hit song, 'Whip My Hair.'

Jaden kicked butt at the summer box office in the sequel of the classic karate film.

"I trained every day for four months with Master Wu [the film's fight coordinator]," Jaden told PEOPLE back in 2009.

Willow's infectious song came with a viral music video featuring the singer whipping her hair – literally – and splashing paint around a white room. See the video inside.

The Smith family aren't the only stars celebrating their award nominations. Tyler Perry received a whopping 19 nominations for his films and TV shows, including Best Film nominations for 'Why Did I Get Married?' and 'For Colored Girls.'

Justin Timberlake is also nominated for his role as Sean Parker in 'The Social Network.'

Other notable nominees include Kanye West, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Sofia Vergara.

Indie Film 'Once' Heads to Broadway

If you caught John Carney's indie romance 'Once' and thought it would make a great Broadway production, you aren't alone. Producers John N. Hart Jr., Jeff Sine and Fred Zollo snagged the live theater rights to the film back in 2008 with initial plans to have it on the stage for the 2010-2011 theater season.

While they didn't quite make that schedule, there's good news for fans who've been waiting to see the live version of the little film that came seemingly out of nowhere.

The producers announced yesterday that Irish playwright Enda Walsh and Scottish director John Tiffany will team up to adapt the film for the stage with an eye set on a fall opening. The music and lyrics of stars Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, which were good enough to win the duo an Oscar for Best Original Song, will be featured prominently alongside the design work of Bob Crowley.

Details on casting have yet to be ironed out. It seems unlikely that Hansard and Irglova will reprise their roles. (The duo, who dated in real life, split in 2009.)

'Once' burst onto the scene at Sundance back in 2007. The title garnered an Audience Award at the festival, along with the requisite amount of buzz.

The film tells the story of a busker who meets a young immigrant woman who plays piano. The two struggling musicians team up to create a demo, but the music is more than that – it's therapeutic and chronicles the beginning of their own love affair. With a heavy emphasis on character and music, 'Once' should make a nearly seamless transition to the more intimate setting of the theater.

Check out the trailer for 'Once' below.

Did Britney Spears Copy Her New Single?

As Britney Spears enjoys the No. 1 spot on iTunes with her new single, 'Hold It Against Me,' one music group is crying foul, saying she ripped off the title of the hit song.

Country group The Bellamy Brothers released a song in 1979 called 'If I Said You Have a Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me,' and singer David Bellamy is speaking out against Spears' new song, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Spears' latest hit has a chorus containing the line, "If I said I want your body now, would you hold it against me?'

"It's not every day you get in the middle of a Britney Spears brawl," Bellamy told the magazine.

The country crooner, who penned the group's 1979 hit, said his son first clued him in on Spears' single. While no legal action has been taken regarding the song's crossover title, Bellamy is looking into the situation.

"I just have to see what the intent was," he said. "I just kind of found it unoriginal, and I guess it makes us realize how old we are, because they're recycling our titles already."

Bellamy, who has not heard from Spears' camp regarding the similarities, understands that the "beautiful body" line is often used, but not always as overtly as with this latest hit single.

"This particular title is kinda hard to disguise, because the title is the song," Bellamy said of Spears' track. "It's not like saying, 'I love you, baby.'... I think there's just more original stuff out there to do than just rehashing old titles."

The Bellamy Brothers would know. The country band hits the road this year for a 180-show tour as they celebrate the 30th anniversary of their hit album, 'Let Your Love Flow.'

Spears' song, produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke, hit the Internet on Monday and quickly shot to the No. 1 spot on iTunes. Her new album is expected to be released March 15.

Studio: No 'Ghostbusters 3' Without Bill Murray

If you've been following the ever-increasing rumors revolving around 'Ghostbusters 3,' you know the drill. There's a script written by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky ('Year One,' 'The Office'), and pretty much everyone is eager to jump back into the supernatural world for a bit before handing over the reigns to a new crop of ghostbusters. That is, everyone except Bill Murray.

Most of the rumors and news items about the film have focused on Murray because the actor isn't so keen on returning to the world. So the project continues to rest in stasis, going nowhere.

Since the story is a passing of the torch, one might assume that it would be possible to do the film without Murray. But in a case of supreme studio loyalty -- and smarts, because let's face it, he's got the most star power of the bunch -- Sony won't give the sequel the green light unless Murray is involved.

A few days ago, during PR rounds for 'No Strings Attached,' Ivan Reitman said that "virtually everything" we think we know about the third film is wrong. A newly edited script was just finished and sent to Murray, and they're waiting to see what he has to say. Now Deadline sources explain that it's all up to the actor. "Without Murray, the studio absolutely will not make the film." With a hefty price tag -- $150 million -- Sony just won't risk it without a firm deal, nor do any "meaningful prep" that could be in vain.

It's nice to see some studio loyalty, even if it is monetarily inspired, after casting drama with Hulk actors, 'Iron Man' replacements and the like. And though Murray's disinterest might keep the project in limbo and make eager fans crazy, it's hard to blame him.

He told GQ last year that the dream for the third installment vaporized when he heard how bad 'Year One' was, and that these same guys -- Stupnitsky and Eisenberg -- were penning the script. He claimed that even fellow ghostbusters saw it and said, "It was one of the worst things they had ever seen in their lives." (Worst ever? Maybe not. Really bad? Definitely.) But Ernie Hudson -- you might remember him as Winston Zeddemore -- really boiled it down, explaining that "Bill has been the hold up. His definition of good is a little bit different than everybody else's."

If Murray holds up the project until the script is worthy, should we complain? Out of the actual ghostbusters (excluding supporting star Sigourney Weaver), he's got the most star power and solid career, so his definition of good is rather important.

That being said, he did get involved with 'Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties' a few years ago. But at least he regrets it.

Holly Madison Is Not a Fan of Hugh Hefner's New Fiancee Crystal Harris

Holly Madison is finally speaking out on ex-boyfriend and Playboy founder Hugh Hefner's proposal to Playboy Playmate Crystal Harris, and she is not happy. She even warns Hefner to reconsider.

In an interview with Life & Style magazine, Madison says, "I'd like to see Hef settle down. I just want it to be with the right person, and I feel like he's making a hasty decision. I'm not sure Crystal is the best thing for him."

Madison, 31, was one of Hefner's three girlfriends who rose to prominence from the E! reality show 'The Girls Next Door.' But Madison was Hefner's "number one" girlfriend for more than six years before they broke up in October 2008 over his refusal to wed. Harris, 24, moved into the Playboy Mansion in January 2009. Hefner proposed to Harris on Christmas Eve last year.

Madison continues, saying, "Crystal hasn't been around very long – she's a mysterious character. No one knows much about her. Plus, she's very young, probably too young to settle down. I've seen a lot of girls try to date Hef, and some have ulterior motives. I don't think it would be a bad idea for him to get to know her a little better. I think it's possible Crystal could break Hef's heart. They could end up divorcing, and she could take half his money."

Madison tells E! Online, "I have a lot of different feelings on it [the engagement]. I don't just feel one way. I kind of didn't want to put a generic statement out there like 'Congratulations!' because I felt everyone would see through that."

Instead, she arranged a meeting with Hefner and Harris in January to see the couple's supposed joy for herself. "I wanted to check up in person. I told them that I wish them the best and that Crystal had better not do him wrong or else I'll kick her butt. It was definitely awkward," Madison tells Life & Style.

She concludes by saying, "I'm not jealous that he'd marry someone else. I just don't want it to be a girl who's using him to start her career. Basically, I think he could do better than Crystal."

In a RadarOnline interview, Madison mentions that the producers of her Las Vegas burlesque performance 'Peepshow' told her that she needed to lose weight. "I always thought I looked fine. It was a shock to me when they told me to lose weight. I just feel like I market myself as a sex symbol. I don't market myself as a fitness model or a professional dancer, so I feel like the way I look is fine!"

Tim McGraw Admits Motivation for Getting Sober Was Drunk Texting

Tim McGraw has admitted part of his motivation for getting clean and sober was realizing his bad habit of drunk texting wife Faith Hill.

"I only learned how to text because back when I was drinking, I would get in trouble when I would call my wife, and she would find out I was drinking," Tim tells On the Red Carpet with a laugh. "And then I started slurring my texts, and I figured hell, I gotta quit drinking. Thank God nobody knew anything about Skype back then -- I would've never stayed out of trouble!"

Tim quit drinking about three years ago. He credits the recipient of his intoxicated calls for helping him change his ways.

"Faith has kept me alive," Tim told PEOPLE magazine, adding that if not for his wife, "I'd be dead. I would have partied too hard. I might have caught myself somewhere along the way and put the brakes on. I don't know if I would have gone [to rehab], don't think I could have been talked into that during those times," he said. "She's saved my life in a lot of different ways -- from myself more than anything. She's loved me through times when I didn't love me. I can go down a dark road sometimes, when you're not feeling good about yourself -- and she pulls me out."

Tim jokes that he plays the "Faith" role in his current movie, 'Country Strong,' as the sober half of a struggling couple, while Gwyneth Paltrow plays the old Tim -- a country star struggling with substance abuse.

But in all seriousness, he insists his life off the screen never really compared to that of the intense situations he and Gwyneth act out on screen. "I had some problems, but this was a whole deeper thing here," Tim told The Boot at a 'Country Strong' press junket. "It's a totally different relationship than I have with my wife because [Faith's] actually the boss. I don't know anything about being in charge in our relationship."

Kanye West Pays $180K for Watch With His Own Image

While rap artists are known for their flashy and ostentatious jewelry, Kanye West has taken his adornment to new heights. After appearing with a $300,000 chain and charm featuring the Egyptian god Horus and a four-finger pyramid ring at the BET Awards last summer, West has recently been seen around town wearing a custom-made yellow gold Tiret watch adorned with his own face.

The watch, which reportedly set West back $180,000, is encrusted with 8 carats of yellow, black, brown and white diamonds in the shape of his own glasses-clad face. According to reports, watchmaker Tiret took more than five months to create the dial of the watch itself, which is made of a gold-colored mother-of-pearl.

Following West's lead, other entertainers have also begun to seek out Tiret's custom made watches. Last month, singer Usher commissioned the Damon Dash-owned New York luxury watch company to create a one-of-a-kind timepiece with his face on it for a cool $250,000.

Earlier this week, it was reported that West asked artist George Condo to design the controversial first album cover for 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' in hopes it would be "banned."

West's next venture will be the highly anticipated 'Watch the Throne,' a collaborative album with Jay-Z, which was to be released either this week or on March 1.

Wright Calls for Discplined Batting

John Wright, the New Zealand coach, has asked for more discipline from his misfiring batsmen ahead of the second and final Test against Pakistan which starts on Saturday. New Zealand had folded for 110 in the second innings of the first Test in Hamilton and lost by ten wickets.

"We've got to try and get that top order functioning better," Wright said. "Whatever we plan, and they're pretty simple plans, we've got to be disciplined enough to get the job done.

"There's no excuses. We don't need any explanations, if you're picked as a batter your job is to get runs. It's about occupying the crease and not giving your wicket away, it's not rocket science."

New Zealand's batting flopped on an almost subcontinental track in the first Test at Seddon Park, which was slow with not much bounce on offer. They will now have to get their act together on a Basin Reserve pitch that is expected to assist the seamers. "It looks pretty grassy," Wright said of the pitch for the second Test. "We wouldn't mind more sideways and bounce, it's good for us."

One change New Zealand are contemplating is bringing in allrounder James Franklin for opener Tim McIntosh, who has six single-digit scores in his previous eight Test innings. "I think whenever you get a player like James in terms of the all-round package it's a real advantage so you always try to fit that type of player in the team," the New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori said. "With the likes of Jesse Ryder not bowling and Kane (Williamson) not bowling as well as we would have liked in the last test, then the addition of an allrounder could be beneficial, but we will find out later on."

Franklin hasn't played a Test in nearly two years but has turned in strong performances on the domestic circuit and in limited-overs for New Zealand.

Greenway Secures 2-0 Series Lead

Lydia Greenway played her third match-winning innings in a row as England took a 2-0 lead in the Twenty20 series with a five-wicket success at the MCG. Following her crucial efforts in the final ODI and opening T20, Greenway hit an unbeaten 30 to guide the chase of 100 in a match reduced to 16 overs per side.

Given the torrential rain that lashed Melbourne for the previous 36 hours it was remarkable that any length of match was possible but the sun broke through in early afternoon and the ground dried swiftly. The fielding of both teams was poor and Australia's last chance went in the 15th over when Rene Farrell dropped a return catch off Greenway with six needed from eight balls.

England had made a swift start to their chase but from 39 for 1 in the sixth over lost 3 for 17 in the next four as Lisa Sthalekar bowled a fine spell. Danielle Wyatt (18) heaved across the line, Charlotte Edwards (16) got a leading edge that was superbly caught and Suzie Rowe found deep midwicket.

Greenway, though, is rapidly becoming the women's version of Eoin Morgan in the manner she can finish an innings. There was solid support from Jenny Gunn as the pair added 43 for the fifth wicket. The boundary count was low on a large outfield, even though the square ropes had been brought in, but the pair ran well.

The final momentum shift came in the 14th over from Rachael Haynes as Greenway and Gunn collected 11 although Gunn sliced to point with the scores level.

It meant a shoddy England fielding display didn't prove costly. At one point they spilled a hat-trick of chances all offered by Leah Poulton, firstly off Gunn who then became the bowler to suffer. However, Australia struggled to find large-scoring overs regularly with England's spinners again doing a good job.

Poulton was eventually caught by a superb reflex return effort by Gunn leaving Sthalekar and Alex Blackwell to scamper 24 off the last three overs. But again Australia weren't good enough to defend a total leaving them needing to win all three matches in Canberra to take the series.

Australia-England ODIs to Feature Umpire Reviews

Players will be able to challenge umpiring decisions in one-day cricket for the first time this Sunday, as Australia and England trial the decision review system in the lead-up to the World Cup. Despite the BCCI's continued opposition to the UDRS, it will be used for the duration of the World Cup, which starts on the subcontinent on February 19.

Hot Spot is likely to only be available for the final stages, as there are not enough Hot Spot cameras to be sent to all the pool matches. Until now, the UDRS has only been used in Test cricket, but it relies on the boards of both countries agreeing, and only four of the past ten Test series have featured umpire reviews.

However, the ICC is keen to see the system implemented in as many series as possible, and has encouraged countries to test it in bilateral ODI series before the World Cup. The Australia-England matches will be the first one-day games to include reviews, with teams expected to be allowed two incorrect referrals per innings as in Test matches.

The third-umpire duties for the seven-match series will be shared between Billy Bowden, Tony Hill, Asad Rauf and Marais Erasmus - all members of the ICC's elite panel who will then go on to the World Cup. The UDRS has been used in Tests since 2008, and the ICC cricket committee will evaluate its long-term viability after the World Cup.

The UDRS was introduced in an effort to remove umpiring howlers from the game, and it has taken players some time to work out how best to use the system without wasting their chances. During the recent Ashes series, Australia and England each asked for 20 referrals, with England having eight decisions overturned and Australia seven.

By the end of the series, the players were much less hasty with their reviews, and the Sydney Test featured only one referral by each team. At the Gabba and the Adelaide Oval, the teams requested a combined 11 reviews, and the number peaked at 12 during Australia's victory in the third Test at the WACA.

However, the use of the system was not without incident. Australia's captain Ricky Ponting was fined for a prolonged debate with the umpires at the MCG, where he felt that Hot Spot had showed Kevin Pietersen edged the ball, but the third official did not interpret the vision the same way.

Michigan Introduces Brady Hoke

Brady Hoke set the tone for a new era of Michigan football with his mouth and fist, pounding the lectern with each word when asked about the suddenly lopsided rivalry with Ohio State.

"It's like none other in football," Hoke said when he was introduced as the leader of college football's winningest team Wednesday, a week after Rich Rodriguez was fired. "Being engaged in that battle for eight years and growing up in the state, you knew Bo and Woody and the great fights they had. It is the most important game on that schedule. Not that the others aren't important, but it is the most important game on that schedule.

"It's almost personal."

The late, great coaches of the stories programs -- Michigan's Bo Schembechler and Ohio State's Woody Hayes -- likely would've loved the passion that poured out of Hoke when he landed his dream job.

"I think my dad is probably as happy as anybody right now," Shemy Schembechler said with a smile after attending Hoke's news conference. "This is an exciting day for Michigan."

Hoke, who turned around San Diego State and Ball State after being a Michigan assistant for eight seasons, might not have been the fans' first choice because many of them wanted Jim Harbaugh or Les Miles to restore the program as a national power.

Athletic director Dave Brandon said he had discussions with both of them, but insisted Harbaugh and Miles weren't offered the job in an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday night.

The next day, he seemed to try to knock the luster off the coach who left Stanford to lead the San Francisco 49ers and the one who stayed at LSU.

"All that glitters is not gold when it comes to some coaches," Brandon said. "A two- or three-hour meeting with a coach uncovers much more than you could learn scanning the Internet or sifting through statistics.

"Sometimes the hype or the PR doesn't match the real person."

Brandon had Hoke on his list of candidates from the start and, toward the end of the seven-day search, he liked him even more after talking to coaches who played against him and hearing from former Michigan stars such as Tom Brady and Charles Woodson lobby him to hire Hoke.

"He is clearly a players' coach," Brandon said. "Unlike some other coaches, it's not about him, it's about his team."

Hoke was so excited about accepting the job that he didn't ask how much he would be paid in a six-year contract that hasn't been finalized.

"We would have walked here from San Diego," Hoke said.

After meeting Hoke at the Big House, some of the current Wolverines sound as if they would try to run through a brick wall for their new coach.

"He's an intense guy, a passionate guy," safety Jordan Kovacs said. "The first thing he talked about was championships -- Big Ten championships. He emphasized that we have 42 and we plan on getting 43 very soon."

Former defensive end Glen Steele, who was coached by Hoke in 1997 when Michigan won the national championship, looked fired up enough to suit up for another snap.

"He loves it here and you can see it in his eyes and you can hear it in his voice," Steele said.

Hoke's chances to have success next season are tied to his ability to persuade Denard Robinson to stay after becoming the NCAA's first player to throw and run for 1,500 yards in Rodriguez's spread offense. Robinson's high school coach, Art Taylor, said Wednesday afternoon he has already heard from at least 10 to 15 schools inquiring about the dual-threat quarterback.

"Every school wants Denard -- trust me," Art Taylor said.

Michigan does, too, even if it has to postpone its return to a traditional-style of offense to keep Robinson.

"When you have talented players, it's your job as a coach to mold that into what's best for your football team," Hoke said.

When Rodriguez was hired to succeed retiring coach Lloyd Carr on Dec. 17, 2007, he was handed a blue button with "Beat Ohio State" in maize letters.

Rodriguez, who later put the button in the top drawer of his desk on one of the many days he was mad, didn't do that once.

The Wolverines slipped from being consistently good -- and sometimes great -- under Schembechler, Gary Moeller and Carr to awful, mediocre and average in Rodriguez's three seasons

But Hoke bristled at suggestion that the program has slipped in stature.

"This is an elite job and will continue to be an elite job," he said. "This is Michigan for God's sakes."

The native of Dayton, Ohio, has to do something about Michigan's unprecedented seven-game losing streak to the Buckeyes to prove his point.

"That school in Ohio and growing up in Ohio, I understand both sides of it," Hoke said.

Gary Crowton Bound for Maryland

LSU offensive coordinator Gary Crowton was ready for a new start with an old friend.

Crowton on Thursday resigned from LSU and said he'll take a similar post at Maryland with new Terrapins coach Randy Edsall, who he coached with at Boston College in the early 1990s.

Edsall "called and said he wanted to have a very aggressive, wide open offense, like we did together at Boston College, and like I'd run at Louisiana Tech and Oregon," Crowton said. "So he's going to bring me out there and we're going to put that together."

Crowton was the offensive coordinator and later the head coach at Louisiana Tech in the late 1990s before taking a job as offensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears. In 2001, he returned to the college ranks as Brigham Young's head coach. After being fired by BYU in 2004, he spent two seasons at Oregon before joining LSU in 2007 and helping the Tigers win a national championship in his first year in charge of the offense.

Crowton had some of his finest moments at LSU that season, including his play call that produced a 22-yard touchdown pass from Matt Flynn to Demetrius Byrd in the final seconds of a 30-24 victory over Auburn.

LSU was in range for a 39-yard field goal to win it, but Crowton saw Demetrius Byrd waving up to him in the press box in an attempt to communicate an advantage he saw against single coverage on his side of the field. Instead of going conservative, Crowton called for a fade to Byrd in the back of the end zone.

"That was one of the highlights," Crowton recalled. "I'm real thankful for the opportunity I had at LSU. We head great games, won a lot of games."

LSU has gone 40-13 during Crowton's time with the Tigers, winning three bowl games, but ranked last in the Southeastern Conference in passing this season.

"We didn't throw it as much this year as we had in past, but we took care of the football pretty good and were able to win 11 games and finish with a real nice bowl win and score 41 points," Crowton said, referring to LSU's 41-24 won over Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 7.

Junior quarterback Jordan Jefferson, who struggled for significant stretches this season, threw for three touchdowns -- including passes of 41 and 42 yards -- and ran for another score against the Aggies.

Crowton said now is a tough time to leave LSU with many key players returning and with coveted junior college quarterback Zach Mettenberger arriving. Mettenberger will compete with Jefferson for the starting job and quarterback Jarrett Lee also is expected to return for his senior season.

"Jordan Jefferson is going to do well. He played with confidence in the Cotton Bowl. He's starting to get it and he's going to have a great year next year," Crowton said. "Jarrett Lee is a solid quarterback, I know they're excited about Zach and with all the starters they have coming back I know it's going to be an exciting time."

Crowton said he told LSU head coach Les Miles of his decision to leave this morning. Miles hugged him and thanked for his four seasons, and then they reminisced a bit.

"We talked about some of the good times and great games and the fun, tough competitive games we've had in the Southeastern Conference," Crowton said. "There were a lot of good memories here. It was a good time and I appreciated that."

Golden Globes Sued for Fraud

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has just been slapped with a lawsuit -- days before the Golden Globes -- by a public relations firm that is claiming they were lied to and given the boot after 17 years of hard work.

Cinepoint Productions claims it did publicity work for the Association for 17 years, taking the Golden Globes from irrelevance to prominence.

In fact, Cinepoint claims they did such a good job, the Globes were able to lock in a $26 million annual deal with NBC beginning in 2012 ... up from their previous deal, worth just $12 mil-a-year.

Cinepoint claims in the suit -- filed today in L.A. County Superior Court -- it was promised when its contract with the Association expired in 2009 it would be renewed, and Cinepoint did a lot of hard work relying on the promise ... a promise it says was not honored.

Of course, it's Hollywood, and Cinepoint was unceremoniously kicked to the curb -- the contract was not renewed.

Cinepoint is suing for the fees it would have earned, $2 million, plus punitive damages.

Calls to the HFPA have not been returned.

Camille to Kelsey: You're Not Divorcing Me Yet!

Camille Grammer just fired off a legal response asking the judge to reject Kelsey Grammer's request to get a quickie divorce -- and estimates the estate's value at $120 million ... TMZ has learned.

Camille says in her declaration, Kelsey is trying to bifurcate the divorce (get a quick decree now and work out the property settlement later) "...solely for the reason that he intends to remarry as soon as possible."

Camille continues, "I don't believe this is a sufficient reason to prejudice my rights to the community estate."

In the docs, Camille also lists their assets -- including "multiple real estate properties" and more than 25 vehicles.

The rest of the declaration gets pretty technical, but the bottom line is this ... it looks like Camille's lawyers believe Kelsey's papers don't square with the legal requirements for a quick divorce decree.

And get this -- if the court grants Kelsey's request Camille wants $10 million immediately ... to hold her over until a final decision is made on the separation of the estate.

Controversy Rages Over New 'Elvis' Recordings

TMZ has obtained a 30-second clip from what could be a historic recording of Elvis & Jerry Lee Lewis back in 1960 -- their only duet in existence -- but there's a problem ... some people claim it ain't legit.

The clip allegedly features Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis shooting the breeze at Jerry's house -- and based on the audio, Jerry's a big fan of the King.

A guy named Rod Lambert from Nashville tells TMZ, he bought the tape over ten years ago at a yard sale ... and only recently discovered that he could have a piece of rock and roll history on his hands.

An audio forensics expert verified that the voices on the tape were indeed Elvis and Lewis ... but Lambert -- who posted more of the clip on his website -- tells us, the company in charge of Elvis' catalog denied it was really the rock legend.

Lambert claims the full 30-minute version of the tape contains some pretty explicit dialogue -- and although Elvis doesn't say much ... according to Lambert, Lewis wasn't so cautious, saying things like, “If you don’t like Jerry’s peaches, then get your f**kin’ ass away from my tree."

Alleged Lindsay Victim to Cops: How Dare You!

The lawyer for the former Betty Ford worker who was allegedly attacked by Lindsay Lohan has fired off a letter of outrage to the Riverside County District Attorney, after authorities secretly went to the worker's home this morning to grill her over the incident.

Members of the D.A.'s office went to Dawn Holland's home this AM to get a statement from her about the incident, even though her lawyer, Keith Davidson has repeatedly told authorities she wanted no part of it.

In the letter, Davidson says he wrote cops a letter last month and had a follow up conversation stating that Holland "does not desire prosecution of Ms. Lohan and that any communication with Ms. Holland is to go through my office."

Davidson is indignant authorities went to Holland's home without even giving him the heads up, calling it "a blatant attempt to stomp on the 6th Amendment [right to counsel]."
