Anne Hathaway Tells Ryan Murphy She Wants To Play Lesbian Aunt On ‘Glee’

Anne Hathaway is one step closer to achieving her goal of guest starring on “Glee.”

“Glee” co-creator and writer Ryan Murphy confirmed to reporters backstage in the pressroom at the Golden Globes that the actress approached him about appearing on the show.

According to Murphy, Anne — the upcoming host of the Oscars — wants to play the lesbian aunt of Kurt Hummel, played by Chris Colfer — who won the Globe earlier in the night for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series.

In fact, late last year, Anne told Jimmy Fallon that she had a big interest in appearing on the hit FOX show.

“In my head, I’ve written a part for myself on ‘Glee.’… In my head I’ve cast myself on ‘Glee’ and I know what song I’d sing,” she told Jimmy on his “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” program back in November.

Anne explained her role – which she seemed to suggest, at the time – she hadn’t yet told Ryan about.

“I would wanna play Kurt’s long-lost aunt, his mother’s sister who is also gay, who comes back to help him deal with his sexuality, and I would sing, ‘You Are Not Alone’ from Stephen Sondheim’s epic show ‘Into the Woods,’” Anne said.

Late last year, reports surfaced that both she and her “Princess Diaries” co-star, Julie Andrews, were negotiating to appear on the hit FOX show.

According to Monsters & Critics, Julie had been in negotiations to appear as Kurt Hummel’s grandmother, while rumors surfaced that Anne would play his aunt.
