Sir Elton John's Biopic to Become a Musical Film

Sir Elton John is set to become the latest musician to have his life-story told on the silver screen. The singer revealed he is currently working with 'Billy Elliot' writer Lee Hall on the movie which will take the form of a musical.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2 (via the Guardian), John told host Chris Evans his hopes and vision for the project. "I'd just like to make a really great film about my life story. We have a great script already by Lee Hall ... It will be more of a fantasy -- 'Moulin Rouge' type of stuff."

He continued, "Obviously, it's not going to be your normal, run-of-the-mill film. My life's been so surreal, from buying a football club to God knows what."

With his much-publicised and flamboyant ways seemingly in the past, Sir Elton is happier than he's ever been and clearly relishes not only life with his partner David Furnish and their newly arrived son Zachary, but also sleeping in his own bed.

"When I come off stage now I have a balance in my life" John explained. "Until I found that [balance] in 1990, I came off stage and I didn't know what to do with myself. Now I fly home every night after a show and I get back in my own bed. I have a wonderful partner in David, I have wonderful friends. I can remember things."

AP is reporting that John told Rolling Stone that he and his former touring partner, Billy Joel, had to cancel many shows in the summer of 2009 because of Joel's sicknesses and "alcoholism." The singer said Joel needs to "do something better" with his life and go to rehab like he did, with patients cleaning floors and not watching television.

John himself has sought help for problems with alcohol, drugs and bulimia throughout his career. He's now practicing "tough love" to try and force the piano man into sobriety.
